Port of Abu Dhabi: Full Day Tour
From $349 pp
| Day 1 |
Upon disembarkation from your cruise line and clearance from immigration, you are met by one of our Travelous representatives at the arrivals area. You are then transferred to your vehicle for the full day excursion of Abu Dhabi. Note: As we will be visiting a mosque, you are requested to dress conservatively as per guidelines given at the end of this itinerary.
We start this tour by visiting the Women"s handicraft centre (closed Friday and Saturday). The Women"s Handicraft Centre is a rounded building featuring several huts, where local women artists perform silver thread work and weaving. They also exhibit essential Arabic oils, incenses, local dresses and handmade crafts - for a minimal fee. They also treat ladies to the famous traditional art of henna body painting. (Photography is restricted and visitors are advised to remove their shoes before entering each hut, in conformity with local traditions)
From there, we continue on to the Heritage Village. Situated on a 1600 sq. meter site overlooking the Corniche, near the Breakwater in Abu Dhabi, this heritage village is run by Emirates Heritage Club. Here you can experience the past traditional life in Abu Dhabi, before oil revenues altered the landscape, economically and socially. In addition to Bedouin tents, there are reconstructions of palm (Arish) and other houses, old fishing villages and traditional Souqs.
Next in the sequence is the Sheikh Zayed Mosque - Largest Mosque in the UAE, founded by Late His Highness Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan. The dome layout and floor plan of the mosque was inspired by the Badshahi Mosque and the architecture was inspired by both Mughal and Moorish design. Its archways are quintessentially Moorish and its minarets are classically Arab. End the day with a tour of the Sheikh Zayed learning center.
Transfer in private vehicle back to the port to board your cruise. Keep the memories alive and we hope to see you again in Abu Dhabi. Stay Travelous!
United Arab Emirates comprises seven monarchical emirates: Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, Ras Al Khaimah, Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah; each unique in its own way and complementing to the rich heritage and culture of the UAE. All emirates lie on the western coast except for Fujairah which entirely lies on the eastern coast. In addition to being one of the fastest growing countries on the planet and its pristine coastline on the Arabian Gulf, the UAE is most notably known for its two largest emirates: Abu Dhabi, the capital, and Dubai, home of the world's tallest free standing structure - the Burj Khalifa.
