Day 6
Jerusalem

We will begin making our way toward Jerusalem today, stopping on the route to explore some of the many sites of historical importance.

Our morning takes us to Mount Beatitudes; located north of the Sea of Galilee, it is the believed location where Jesus delivered the "Sermon on the Mount." From atop the Beatitudes, lies an ancient site where a beautiful church still sits. From this location you can enjoy a magnificent view of the northern part of Sea of Galilee and including Tabgha and Capernaum.

From this viewing point, we"ll visit one of the sites seen from atop the Mount, Tabgha, for a visit to the Church of the Multiplication. This is the traditional site of the miracle of the iplication of the loaves and fishes and the third resurrection appearance of Jesus. The stone in which Jesus fed the people from five loaves of bread and two fish has been made into an altar.

From Tabgha, we continue on to Capernaum; where a 2nd century synagogue that was discovered helped shed light on to the ways of life of this community during the period. It is said, according to the Christian tradition, that Jesus served here as a local rabbi and performed many miracles.

We"ll then drive south to the ancient remains of Beit Shean, the city where Saul and his sins where hung up on the city walls by the Philistines. The Talmud mentions this city as being the "entrance to paradise." Here, we will tour one of the biggest excavated sites in Israel, boasting the remains of an ancient Roman bathhouse and Cardo. Ancient Beit She'an is one of the most impressive Roman and Byzantine sites in Israel that continues to attract some 300,000 tourists annually.

We will then reach the gates of the old city and walk the Via Dolorosa (the path Jesus walked, carrying the cross, on his way to crucifixion) and ending at the Church of Holy Sepulchre.

The tour continues on in the afternoon with the holiest place in Judaism today, the Western Wall - "Kotel". It is here that we begin to descend through the many layers of Jerusalem"s past at the time of the Temple through the Western Wall Tunnels*. Inside, a most interesting model shows the different dwelling periods and history of the inhabitants of Jerusalem. Stand on the site believed to be the nearest spot to the "Holy of Holies".

On to the Garden Tomb, an ancient Jewish sepulchre which matches the New Testament description of the tomb in which Jesus was buried. Protestants sanctify this location as the burial place of Jesus.

Day 10
Eilat

We will depart the Dead Sea, heading towards the Red Sea Resort area of Eilat. Making our first stop in the Negev Desert, Beer Sheba was named by Abraham some 4000 years ago, this location has proven to be of great significance in the history of Israel. From the time of antiquity until modern times, Beer Sheba has always acted as the vibrant, desert-city of the south.

Our next stop en-route to Eilat will be at Sde Boker. This location is best known for as the retirement home for Israel"s first Prime Minister, David Ben-Gurion. From there, we"ll travel to Mitzpe Ramon to explore this Grand Cayon-like marvel by bike. Day 11
Eilat - Mitzpe Ramon

We begin this morning"s touring with a visit to Timna Park- the copper mines that once served as the economic gateway to ancient Israel. The sandstone cliffs and chalcolithic copper mines are truly awe-inspiring as a result of years of water and wind erosion. We"ll continue by climbing up "Solomon"s Pillars" to enjoy the magnificent desert scenery which encompasses the area.

From here, we travel to the beautiful Red Sea for a visit to the beautiful Underwater Observatory. Here we will see a full spectrum of sea life that lives in the Red Sea.

After enjoying the sight of the underwater wonderland, we will get an opportunity to actually experience it during an informative afternoon of snorkelling. The Red Sea is an extremely rich and diverse ecosystem all in itself. More than 1200 species of fish have been recorded in the Red Sea, with about 10% of these species only found here including 40+ species of deep-water fish. The rich diversity is in part due to the 2,000 km of coral reef extending along its coastline; these fringing reefs are 5000-7000 years old and are largely formed of stony acropora and porites corals.

The city of Eilat attracts visitors from all over the world due to its arid desert climate, low humidity and warm sea water. The city"s beaches, coral reefs, desert landscapes and vivid nightlife have also added to its world renowned fame. Enjoy this evening at leisure in this vacation wonderland.
