Welcome to Lima International Airport. Upon arrival at the airport, you will be greeted by your local Travelous representative who be holding a sign with your name printed on it. Transfer in private vehicle with English speaking driver from the Airport to your hotel for overnight.

Enjoy a tour of colonial and modern Lima as you visit diverse touristic sites. Your day begins with a visit to Main Square where the Government Palace is located. After exploring this area, an unforgettable visit to Lima's splendid Colonial Cathedral will follow. The Cathedral contains 14 stunning side chapels as well as the tomb of Francisco Pizarro, the Spanish conquistador of Peru. The tour continues with a visit to San Francisco Church and Monastery which display the finest examples of high Spanish Baroque dating back to 1629. The complex was built over underground catacombs, which were used as cemeteries during colonial times.

A visit to the residential areas of San Isidro, with attractive city parks such as El Olivar, as well as a visit to Miraflores, a modern district with lush gardens, bustling avenues, chic cafes and restaurants will culminate the tour. Return transfer back to hotel provided.

At Iquitos Airport, you will claim your luggage, which the porters will deliver to your suite, then board the air-conditioned bus for the ride to the mighty river.

Enjoy a scenic one-and-a-half hour drive through the Peruvian countryside to the Nuata Wharf where you will board the Aqua Amazon. Over the next three days, the Aqua Amazon will sail along the largest tributaries of the Amazon River, as well as on the mighty Amazon itself.

Toast your journey with sommelier-selected fine South American wine that accompany the Amazonia-influenced cuisine of Aqua Expeditions. You might consider ending this magical evening on the Observation Deck, counting stars.

Day 4
Iquitos

Wake up to a beautiful sunrise over the River. Catch your first glimpse of the Amazon, as you watch the sun come up over this vibrant world of wonderful wildlife.

Travel from the Amazon River onto its black water tributaries where fishermen who are paddling dugout canoes will greet you. At Charo Lake, bait your hooks to catch piranhas, as the Guarani Indians named these vicious creatures, and other Amazon fish as well.

In the mid-afternoon, enjoy a lecture about the diverse fish of the Amazon River in the air-conditioned Indoor Lounge. Learn about the dozens of species of fish swimming in the black waters of the Amazon and its tributaries.

Next stop is the Yacapana Islands for exploration, dolphin sighting, and a night excursion. The Yacapana Islands, or "Iguana Islands" are full of reptile species. As you continue exploring the waterways by skiff, gray and pink freshwater dolphins swim and play around the boats. As the sun sets, different kinds of wildlife come out. Search for caiman, frogs, owls and capybara, the world"s largest rodent and a most curious sight to behold.

Iquitos

After breakfast, embark on the Guided Jungle Walk in the Primary Forest. Visit a resource management project where villagers plant palms to obtain oil. Your guide may also show you the artificial nests created on the sand to protect turtle eggs. Trek deeper into the jungle, as your guide points out the Amazon"s natural pharmacy of medical plants under a canopy of kapok trees, the tallest trees in the Amazon.

In the mid afternoon, enjoy a lecture about the endangered animals of the Amazon in the air-conditioned lounge. A naturalist guide will introduce the major threats to the magnificent but precarious eco-system.

s20\parUp next is the Monkey, Dolphin and Caiman Expedition. Freshwater dolphins will playfully swim around as thirteen species of monkey frolic on the surrounding jungle canopy. Watch for alligators, and keep your binoculars at the ready, as you might see more than 200 species of birds.

Day 6
Iquitos - Lima

Rise early to travel by skiff along the Ucayali River to Yucuruche Lake, where you will walk a little way into the jungle to see the world"s largest aquatic plant, the "Victoria Regias." The Aqua Amazon then skirts the edges of Pacaya-Samiria Reserve where you will witness one of the great phenomena of the Southern Hemisphere as the two major tributaries, the Ucayali and the Maranon, converge to "give birth" to the world"s greatest waterway, the Amazon River. Nature here appears especially dramatic as dozens of bird species grace the moment with their song.

Travel onward by skiff to a native village, to meet and interact with the hospitable Cocama Indians. With your naturalist guide acting as interpreter, you may ask them about their way of life along the river as they share their culture, traditions, and folklore with you. This is also an excellent opportunity to purchase some of their handicrafts and original folk art.

En route to Iquitos airport, your naturalist guides will bring you to visit the Manatee Rescue Center, where biologists and volunteers care for endangered Amazon manatees that conservation authorities have rescued.

Upon arrival at the Cusco airport, you will be greeted by our local Travelous English-speaking representative who will escort you to the Sacred Valley. The transfer from (11,200 ft) to Sacred Valley (nearly 2,000ft lower) is approximately two hours.

Enjoy your afternoon at leisure as you acclimatize to the high altitude in the Valley of the Incas. The Sacred Valley will charm you with its pleasant climate, fertile lands and spectacular views surrounding picturesque communities. Travelous encourages you to relax and relish a traditional Coca or Muna infused tea.

Bask in the glory of the Sacred Valley through a full day tour of its alluring attractions. Visit the Pisac Ruins, set high above the valley (9,700ft), by patterned fields and rimmed with terraces, the stone work and panoramas from Pisac ruins are quite striking. Continue to Maras Salt Terraces glistening salt mines that have been in use since pre-Columbian times. Visit the archaeological site of Moray. The Andean terraces, built on retaining walls filled with fertile soil and watered via a complex irrigation system, offered more than 250 different types of vegetables and cereals, such as corn, quinoa and kiwicha.

Next is Chinchero, a vibrant community nestled in the mountains. Its main attraction, however, is its Sunday Market, which was originally dedicated to the barter of produce by the people of the valley. Today, it is a hub of pulsating activity of color and movement with its range of produce, handicrafts and textiles made in pre-Columbian style.

Ollantaytambo - Machu Picchu Pueblo (Aguas Calientes) - Machu Picchu

Transfer to Ollanta Station from the Sacred Valley with private vehicle and English speaking assistance.

Travel to Aguas Calientes on board the Vistadome Valley Train, accompanied by your private guide. Upon arrival, board the 30-minutes shuttle bus to the Machu Picchu citadel.

Enjoy a private exploration of Machu Picchu, a citadel considered to be one of the most extraordinary examples of landscape architecture in the world, re-discovered in 1911 by the explorer Hiram Bingham. Located in an enclave on the saddle of a mountain, overlooking the deep canyon of the Urubamba River, in an area of lush tropical forest, it served as a place of worship, a site for star-gazing and a private hacienda of the family of the Inca Pachacutec. It consists of two main areas: one agricultural and the other urban, which is noted for its sacred zone with its temples, squares and royal tombs.

After the tour, you will take the bus to Aguas Calientes town, escorted by your private guide.

Machu Picchu - Poroy Station - Cusco

Enjoy a leisurely morning so to explore Machu Picchu at your own pace. Travelous encourages you to return to Machu Picchu for a magical morning sunrise and the chance to climb Huayna Picchu.

The Machu Picchu ruins are limited to only 2,500 visitors per day between 6am and 2pm, while the Huayna Picchu hike is limited to 400 people per day. The 400 visitors are divided into two groups that depart at different times in the morning. The first group departs between 7-8am, while the second group departs between 10-11am. It is necessary to book the Huayna Picchu hike well in advance.

Board the Vistadome train as you journey to Poroy station located 20 minutes from Cusco.

In the early afternoon, enjoy a private city tour of Cusco city and its surrounding ruins. This captivating city tour begins with a visit to Cusco's Main Square, known in Inca times as "Huyacaypata" or "The Warrior"s Square." This was the location of key political and cultural events in Cusco's history. The next stop is the great Cathedral, which was built between 1560 and 1664 with large stones of red granite taken from the Inca Fortress of Sacsayhuaman. Next, tour the gold-plated Korikancha Temple, the most important temple dedicated to sun worship. Afterwards, continue to the ruins above Cusco: Kenko, Pucapucara, Tambomachay and the Sacsayhuaman Fortress, an imposing example of Inca military architecture.

A private guide will greet you at Lima airport and your final tour of Lima will begin upon arrival.

The guide will accompany you on a visit to the Larco Herrera Museum. The Museum showcases remarkable chronological galleries that provide an excellent overview of 3000 years of development of Peruvian pre-Columbian history. Located in a unique vice-royal mansion of the 18th century, built over a 7th century pre-Columbian pyramid, it is surrounded by beautiful gardens. The Museum features the finest gold and silver collection from Ancient Peru and the famous erotic archaeological collection. Larco is one of the few museums in the world where visitors may enter the storage area with its 45.000 classified archaeological objects. Its masterpieces are considered worldwide icons of Pre-Columbian art.

Reservations/Booking and Deposits:  To book a Tour, each Traveler (or leader of a Group of Travelers) must submit:

 

A.     A completed booking form signed electronically by the main Traveler. By submitting the booking form on the payments page, the traveler accepts our full Terms and Conditions.  

B.     A deposit of 30% of the Tour price (minimum $250 per person), is due immediately upon booking.

C.     The full balance of the trip cost is due ninety days (90) before the trip departure date.

D.      If you book your trip with us ninety days (90 days) or less before the departure date, the full cost of the trip is due at that time.

E.       In the instance payment is made by certified check or wire transfer, reservations will only commence once the check is cleared.

F.       Availability of Services and Accommodations cannot be guaranteed until a Tour is booked.  We will exercise our best efforts to book the Services and Accommodations described in the Tour Itinerary, however, in busy seasons and with client bookings made within 90 days of Tour date, we may be forced to offer substitutes.  In this instance we will notify you as soon as possible and try to substitute comparable Services and Accommodations based on availability.

G.      Ticketing & credit card processing for international transport and other select domestic airfare pertaining to a specific country is done by a 3rd party and not included in your total land package price unless otherwise stated.

H.       Cancellations of confirmed bookings 90 days or more prior to departure will receive full refund minus a $250 (per person) administrative fee and any non-refundable paid fees (e.g. non-refundable airfare, permits, cruise or hotel deposits). 60-89 days will be subject to loss of 30% of program price minus a $250 (per person) administrative fee and any non-refundable paid fees (e.g. non-refundable airfare, permits, cruise or hotel deposits). 30-59 days will be subject to loss of 50% of program price. 29 days or less will be subject to loss of 100% of program price.
