Day 1
Aurangabad

Welcome to Aurangabad! Upon arrival at the airport, you will be greeted by one of our local Travelous, English-speaking representatives who will be holding a sign with your name printed on it. Transfer in private vehicle with driver from the Airport to your hotel for overnight.

Today you will visit some local attractiona in the historic city of Aurangabad.

Bibi Ka Maqbara is a magnificent mausoleum, situated 5 km from Aurangabad. Literally means 'Tomb of the Lady', this was built by Prince Azam shah, son of Emperor Aurangzeb, in the late 17th century as a loving tribute to his mother, Rabia-ul-Daurani, alias Dilras Banu Begum. Also known as Mini Taj, the mausoleum is far less ornamental, than Taj Mahal built by his grandfather in Agra (Aurangzeb was the third son of Emperor Shah Jahan who built the Taj Mahal as a mausoleum for his beloved wife Mumtaz Mahal).

This amazing tour is followed by a visit to Daulatabad which is situated around 13 kms away from Aurangabad. This place is known for its majestic fortress which was build in 12th century on top of a hill. The Daulatabad fort emerges dramatically over 600 ft above the Deccan plain. It is one of the world's best preserved forts of medieval times and also one of the few impregnable forts in Maharashtra with excellent architecture. The city was named Daulatabad 'The city of fortune', by Mohammed bin Tughluq, the sultan of Delhi. Daulatabad also became the capital of India for a short period during the reign of Sultan Muhammad-bin-Tughluq, who gave the city its present name. But very soon the charm of this ancient city faded.

Day 2
Aurangabad

Enjoy a half day trip to Ellora Caves (Closed on Tuesday) - is just 30 kms from Aurangabad. The fine sculptures of the Hindu, Jain and Buddhist caves are the work of the priests and pilgrims passing through the ancient trade route. After a few centuries, the 34 caves were cut out of volcanic rocks of the Deccan, out of which 12 are dedicated to Buddhism (6th-7th centuries), 17 are dedicated to Hinduism (8th-10th centuries) and five are dedicated to Jainism (10th-13th centuries). The Buddhist caves belong to the Vajrayana sect of the Mahayana School and include 'viharas' (monasteries) and 'chaityas' (chapels), the worship-place of the monks. Among the centrally located Hindu caves, the Kailasanatha Temple is best known and is has the most splendid rock-cut structures at Ellora. It has the distinction of being the only building that was begun from the top. The Jain caves, in contrast to the other caves, are simpler, have less grandeur and have an aura of peace. They are intricately carved with lotus, elephant, lions and 'tirthankaras' of Lord Mahavira.

Day 3
Aurangabad

Enjoy a full day Ajanta Caves (Closed on Monday) - is a world heritage site, cut out from the volcanic lava of the Deccan trap but are much older than Ellora and belongs to 200 BC to 650 AD. The British officers rediscovered the lost site in 1819, by accident. Ajanta displays the complete panorama of the Buddhist development in India with the Mahayana group, Hinayana group and the later Mahayana group. The finest sculptures, paintings on the ceiling and murals worth mentioning are: 'Bodhisattva Padmapani', 'Boddhisattva Avalokitesvara', '17 Jatakas', 'The Birth of the Buddha', 'The Thousand Buddhas', the elephant scattering the lotus, the black princess, charging bull, and the row of dancers with musician.
