Day 3
Villa de Leyva

After breakfast, your local guide and driver will take you on a drive through the countryside to the colonial village of Zipaquira.

Visit the world's only salt cathedral, an antiquated salt mine that was brilliantly transformed into a functioning salt cathedral. Be amazed by the icons and sculptures that were carved into the walls of this salt cave by talented sculptors and artists. Upon leaving the cathedral, explore the village's main square where you will have the chance to enjoy locally baked desserts and the handicraft market before continuing on to the Encenillo Reserve.

After lunch, the Natural Encenillo Reserve provides an opportunity to stretch your legs amongst the peace and quiet of the countryside. Enjoy bird watching, and observe the myriad varieties of orchids growing in the park.

Continue to the colonial town of Villa de Leyva. With its winding cobbled streets, lined on either side by orange roofed white-washed houses, and surrounded by towering mountains, Villa de Leyva takes you back in time. With scarcely a modern building in site, this village where time stands still speaks of quieter days and simpler times.

Enjoy an evening at leisure to stroll through the cobblestone streets.

Day 4
Villa de Leyva

Explore Iguaque National Park with a good pair of walking boots and jacket but the rewards for the brave trekker are amazing views and scenery in one of the most unique parts of the Andes.

The Muiscas, the ancient tribes people who inhabited the area high above Villa de Leyva, which now sits within the parameters of the National Park, considered the Lago (Lake) Iguaque to be the birthplace of mankind. They believed that the goddess Bachue emerged from lake holding her new-born child.

Today this birthplace of mankind is known by the name of the Santuario de Flora y Fauna de Iguaque. There are eight lakes found inside the park, including the principal Lago Iguaque all resting at dizzying altitudes. This important "Paramo" or mountain highland is home to numerous plants and animals, including the famous Frailejon, a strange mountain like cactus endemic to the Andean region.

Day 5
Barichara - Guane

In a private vehicle, continue to the department of Santander, home to a iple charming traditional villages like Barichara, Giron and San Gil. Barichara is also becoming the country's adventure capital with rafting, rappelling and paragliding as some of the daredevil attractions being offered.

Regarded as one of the best preserved colonial towns of the region, Barichara's simple beauty is unmatchable. With its cobbled streets and white-washed traditional building, the town naturally evokes the feeling of a traditional Colombian "Pueblo" or village from a bygone era. In fact, much of the town has remained unchanged for over 300 years. Designated a national monument in 1975, the village has a tranquil atmosphere with lots of fine stonework, found in the churches and on the street paving, and quaint houses painted in white and green or blue paint.

Enjoy an evening at leisure to explore this village, home to many of the country's artists.

Hotel La Nube Posada - Superior Room

Day 6
Barichara - Guane

Put on your hiking boots and get ready for a 9 kilometer hike to Guane Village on the Camino Real!

For those wanting a little adventure activity, the walk along the Camino Real, meaning Colonial Highway (where travelers on foot, mule and horseback once trod) to Guane is perfect. Other than hiking to the wonderfully sleepy village of Guane, there's little more to do other than soak up the atmosphere and admire the town's architecture and tranquility. The walk is easy with a downward inclination for the full 9 km, but remember to take water as it can get quite warm. Guane is even more lost in time than Barichara and was once the capital of the pre-Colombian Guane culture.

Along the road, unique flora, endemic to the region and beautiful vistas will reward you at every turn.

Hotel La Nube Posada - Superior Room

Day 7
Bucaramanga

Head to the capital of the Department of Santander, Bucaramanga, in a private vehicle. Along the way, stop to explore the Chicamocha Canyon, a steep-sided canyon carved by the Chicamocha River. The river flows through the departments of Boyaca and Santander, where it reaches its maximum depth near the outskirts of Bucaramanga.

The Chicamocha Canyon, which was formed some 46 million years ago, extends over 108,000 acres and 2000 meters in depth. On this territory many million years ago, there was a lake that hosted many marine animals whose remains have been found.

Welcome to Bucaramanga, "The City of Parks" and one of Colombia's largest cities with some of the lowest unemployment rates in the country. You will have the evening at leisure to explore the city"s famous parks and shopping malls.
