From San Jose, you will be driven down through the lush green ridges of the spectacular Talamanca Mountain range to reach the Savegre Nature Resort in San Gerardo de Dota. Over 170 bird species have been observed in the area and among birders; San Gerardo is treasured as the best place in Costa Rica to see the Resplendent Quetzal.

At the resort, you will have a chance to see a number of the regional endemics found in these mountains, including the Volcano Hummingbird, Long-tailed Silky-Flycatcher, Black-billed Nightingale-Thrush, and both Yellow-thighed and Large-footed Finch.

San Gerardo de Dota

Today, you will embark on an exciting search for the elusive Quetzal!

At Savegre, you will have the best chance of finding and observing this spectacular bird. The Aztecs believed the Resplendent Quetzal was the representation of Quetzalcoatl, their supreme god.

An experienced guide will take you to the places where the Quetzal feeds on aguacatillos, their favorite fruit. It only needs a few seconds of watching the Quetzal to appreciate why it is considered to be the most beautiful species in the American continent. During your quest for the Queztal you will also have a chance to spot species such as the Highland Tinamou, Black Guan, Chiriqui Quail-Dove, White-crowned Parrot, Fiery-throated Hummingbird, Violet Sabrewing, Green Violet-ear, White-throated Mountain-gem, Silvery-throated Jay, and the Black-billed Nightingale-Thrush.

After breakfast, you will be transferred to Puerto Jimenez where you will meet a representative from the Lapa Rios Hotel in the beautiful Osa Peninsula.

In the afternoon, you will have free time to relax and explore the incredible surroundings. The sustainable Lapa Rios Ecolodge is located in a 1000-acre rainforest reserve where you"re likely to see monkeys, toucans, scarlet macaws, sloths and a variety of other creatures. Fall asleep to the lull of distant waves.

During you stay enjoy wide selection of guided tours such as: Sunrise and Sunset Birds Tours, Wild Waterfall, Local Medicine Tour, Rain Forest Ridge Walk, Osa Trail, Matapalo Tour, Night Walk Pigs and morer. Begint your visit to Lapa Rios with an early morning birdwatching tour. Share the cool morning air with over 319 bird species inhabiting theOsa Peninsula. Following the tour, you will have time at leisure to relax.

At the designated time transfer from Lapa Rios Eco Lodge to Puerto Jimenez airstrip.

Fly from Puerto Jimenez to San Jose Airport, duration is approximately 50 minutes.

Please note: All in-country flights have a 25 lb. baggage limit per person. Additional luggage can usually be accommodated for an extra charge. If you carry more than 30 pounds you may be required to leave your luggage until the next flight with space available.

Upon arrival you will be transferred to the Poas Volcano Lodge for a relaxing afternoon on the beautiful hotel grounds.

Unfortunately, we say goodbye to you today. After breakfast, a Travelous representative and private vehicle will transfer you to San Jose airport and offer full assistance there. Keep the memories alive and we hope to see you again in Costa Rica. Pura Vida!

 What's Included:

What's not Included:

  • Airfare to/from the Tour start point, including domestic or inter-country connecting flights, unless otherwise stated in itinerary.
  • tips and gratuities
  • items of a personal nature such as incidentals, excess baggage charges
  • airport taxes/entrance fees, port charges, foreign government departure taxes
  • Visas (unless otherwise indicated), Inspection, Customs, Immigration and Naturalization fees Additional fuel surcharges on cruises
  • Travel Insurance including Medical, Lost Baggage and Trip cancellation
  • Optional activities (golf, watersports, etc.)
  • any other activities or items not explicitly advertised as included in the price of a Tour

 

Reservations/Booking and Deposits:  To book a Tour, each Traveler (or leader of a Group of Travelers) must submit:

 

A.     A completed booking form signed electronically by the main Traveler. By submitting the booking form on the payments page, the traveler accepts our full Terms and Conditions.  

B.     A deposit of 30% of the Tour price (minimum $250 per person), is due immediately upon booking.

C.     The full balance of the trip cost is due ninety days (90) before the trip departure date.

D.      If you book your trip with us ninety days (90 days) or less before the departure date, the full cost of the trip is due at that time.

E.       In the instance payment is made by certified check or wire transfer, reservations will only commence once the check is cleared.

F.       Availability of Services and Accommodations cannot be guaranteed until a Tour is booked.  We will exercise our best efforts to book the Services and Accommodations described in the Tour Itinerary, however, in busy seasons and with client bookings made within 90 days of Tour date, we may be forced to offer substitutes.  In this instance we will notify you as soon as possible and try to substitute comparable Services and Accommodations based on availability.

G.      Ticketing & credit card processing for international transport and other select domestic airfare pertaining to a specific country is done by a 3rd party and not included in your total land package price unless otherwise stated.

H.       Cancellations of confirmed bookings 90 days or more prior to departure will receive full refund minus a $250 (per person) administrative fee and any non-refundable paid fees (e.g. non-refundable airfare, permits, cruise or hotel deposits). 60-89 days will be subject to loss of 30% of program price minus a $250 (per person) administrative fee and any non-refundable paid fees (e.g. non-refundable airfare, permits, cruise or hotel deposits). 30-59 days will be subject to loss of 50% of program price. 29 days or less will be subject to loss of 100% of program price.
