Snorkel in one of Costa Rica’s largest coral reefs where thousands of colorful tropical fish and even the rare stingray abide. Upon arrival at San Jose airport, you will be greeted by one of our local Travelous, English-speaking representatives who will be holding a sign with your name printed on it. Your representative will take you to your hotel where you will pick up your travel packet with vouchers and specific information regarding your travels.

Tortuguero

After an early departure you will enjoy a scenic drive through Braulio Carrillo National Park (breakfast enroute), followed by a relaxing boat trip through the jungle canals to get to Tortuguero. A welcome cocktail awaits you as you arrive in this natural paradise. Your naturalist guide take you for a stroll through the Tortuguero town and to the Turtle Conservation center for a visit.

Tortuguero Beach is the most important nesting site of the endangered green turtle in the Western Hemisphere. Giant leatherback, hawksbill, and loggerhead turtles also nest here.

During your visit to Tortuguero, you will explore the National Park"s system of waterways, a natural system of canals and navigable lagoons that crisscross the park from southeast to northwest, bringing a constant fresh supply of water to the park lowlands. These canals provide the perfect habitat for 57 species of amphibians, 111 species of reptiles and 60 species of mammals.

Optional Night Turtle Watching tour: Tortuguero beach is the most important nesting site of the endangered green turtle in the Western Hemisphere. Nesting can occur from late June to early October with key months being July and August.

Tortuguero

Today, you will have an adventurous boat ride in the Tortuguero National Park. This is a wonderful and interesting experience where you can see abundant flora and fauna along the jungle lined canals or Tortuguero. Return to the lodge for free time or for a relaxing siesta, enjoy the pool or go for a walk on the stunning grounds.

Enjoy a delicious dinner at the lodge and night at leisure to explore the incredible surroundings.

Puerto Viejo

After lunch, you will leave Tortugero by boat and then head south along the Caribbean Coast to the vibrant fishing village of Puerto Viejo.

Located in Limon province on the shores of the Caribbean Sea, Puerto Viejo de Talamanca is a beach lover"s paradise. Here amidst the exotic flora and fauna, lies a vibrant seaside town with gorgeous beaches, crystal clear blue waters.

Stroll through the town and enjoy the reggae rhythms and coastal sounds resounding from the restaurants and bars lining the brightly lit streets. Travelous recommends that you try the delicious coconut bread found only in this region of Costa Rica.

Day 5
Puerto Viejo

Today you will have an exciting day snorkeling in the sea and hiking through the tropical forest in Parque Nacional Cahuita.

Parque Nacional Cahuita has the largest system of coral reefs in Costa Rica, including 6 species of coral, a wide range of colorful tropical fishes and the occasional encounter of a harmless reef shark or stingray. This beach has a horseshoe shape, with the entrance of the park at one end and beautiful Punta Cahuita at the other end.

Start with a scenic 20-minute boat ride to two different coral reefs. Then the boat will take you to the Punta to savor a delicious fruit and snack break on the beach.

You will have time to soak up some rays at the beach and then you"re off for a two mile guided hike in this wonderful coastal forest: monkeys, sloths, birds, iguanas and other interesting encounters are common and complemented with fascinating information from your experienced guide.

Optional day to enjoy the beach, hop on a bike and head to Manzanillo beaches or head north to the sloth sanctuary.

Unfortunately, we say goodbye to you today. A Travelous representative and private vehicle will transfer you to San Jose airport and offer full assistance there. Keep the memories alive and we hope to see you again in Costa Rica. Pura Vida!

What's not Included:

  • Airfare to/from the Tour start point, including domestic or inter-country connecting flights, unless otherwise stated in itinerary.
  • tips and gratuities
  • items of a personal nature such as incidentals, excess baggage charges
  • airport taxes/entrance fees, port charges, foreign government departure taxes
  • Visas (unless otherwise indicated), Inspection, Customs, Immigration and Naturalization fees Additional fuel surcharges on cruises
  • Travel Insurance including Medical, Lost Baggage and Trip cancellation
  • Optional activities (golf, watersports, etc.)
  • any other activities or items not explicitly advertised as included in the price of a Tour

 

Reservations/Booking and Deposits:  To book a Tour, each Traveler (or leader of a Group of Travelers) must submit:

 

A.     A completed booking form signed electronically by the main Traveler. By submitting the booking form on the payments page, the traveler accepts our full Terms and Conditions.  

B.     A deposit of 30% of the Tour price (minimum $250 per person), is due immediately upon booking.

C.     The full balance of the trip cost is due ninety days (90) before the trip departure date.

D.      If you book your trip with us ninety days (90 days) or less before the departure date, the full cost of the trip is due at that time.

E.       In the instance payment is made by certified check or wire transfer, reservations will only commence once the check is cleared.

F.       Availability of Services and Accommodations cannot be guaranteed until a Tour is booked.  We will exercise our best efforts to book the Services and Accommodations described in the Tour Itinerary, however, in busy seasons and with client bookings made within 90 days of Tour date, we may be forced to offer substitutes.  In this instance we will notify you as soon as possible and try to substitute comparable Services and Accommodations based on availability.

G.      Ticketing & credit card processing for international transport and other select domestic airfare pertaining to a specific country is done by a 3rd party and not included in your total land package price unless otherwise stated.

H.       Cancellations of confirmed bookings 90 days or more prior to departure will receive full refund minus a $250 (per person) administrative fee and any non-refundable paid fees (e.g. non-refundable airfare, permits, cruise or hotel deposits). 60-89 days will be subject to loss of 30% of program price minus a $250 (per person) administrative fee and any non-refundable paid fees (e.g. non-refundable airfare, permits, cruise or hotel deposits). 30-59 days will be subject to loss of 50% of program price. 29 days or less will be subject to loss of 100% of program price.
