Today you get to explore the city of Kolkata.Highlights includes the glorious Victoria Memorial (Closed on Monday), an imposing edifice containing a collection of Victorian memorabilia, including Queen Victoria's Piano; The Maidan, an enormous park considered to be the 'lungs' of the city offering a fascinating ongoing pageant of the city's life. Kalighat, the soul of the city is an important temple to Kali, the goddess from whom Kolkata supposedly takes its name; Raj Bhavan, the former residence of the British Viceroy in India surrounded by some of the finest examples of Colonial architecture like the Town Hall, Writers' Building (the old East India Company office) and St. John's Church. For the Museum enthusiasts, not to be missed is the Indian Museum - one of the finest museums in Asia, with an excellent collection of art, as well as fossils and meteorites. The tour of the city is complete with a visit to the St.Paul's Cathedral - the most important church of the city was constructed by Bishop Wilson in 1847 and is the first Episcopal Church of the East. Also you will visit Marble Palace (Closed on Monday & Thursday)& Botanical Gardens. End your tour with a visit to the house of Mother Therasa. (closed on Thursday)

Transfer in a private vehicle with English Speaking driver from your hotel to the Airport for your onward flight.

Flight from Kolkata to Bagdogra. Duration is 1 hour.

Welcome to Bagdogra Airport. A Travelous representative will be waiting in the passenger area holding a sign with your name on it. Private Transfer with an English speaking driver is provided from the airport to your hotel in Darjeeling.

Early in the morning, drive to Tiger Hill, 10 km south of Darjeeling, to get a spectacular view of Mt. Kanchenjunga at sunrise. On the way back, stop at Ghoom, a small monastery by the roadside, built in 1875 housing a 5-meter statue of the Buddha.

After breakfast, emabark on a city tour of Darjeeling and visit Himalayan Mountaineering Institute, Zoological Park and Tibetan Refugee Centre.

On Birch Hill to the north stands the Shrubbery, the residence of the Governor of West Bengal and further down along the Birch Hill Road is the Himalayan Mountaineering Institute (Closed on Thursday) previously headed by the late Tenzing Norgay. A museum displays the equipment used on the first successful expedition to Mount Everest. The nearby Zoological Park (Closed on Thursday) specializes in high-altitude wildlife - yaks, Himalayan black bears, pandas, but is also has four Siberian tigers. Dominating the Mall is the Planter's Club, where planters from all over the area meet, particularly on Sundays. The Tibetan Refugee Self-Help Centre has a temple, school, hospital and a shop selling carpets, textiles and jewellery.

Return back to your hotel for lunch, before your afternoon visit to the Tibetan Refugee Centre (Closed on Sundays). Situated at Lebong and locally known as the Hermitage, the Tibetan Refugee Self Help Centre (TRSHC) came into existence on October 2, 1959. In 1959, funds raised from local charity led to the starting of this center by Mr. Gyalo Thondup. The place initially provided emergency relief to Tibetan refugees who had come through a hazardous trek over the Himalayas into India. The Hill-side had a special significance for Tibetans, because of the fact that Thirteenth Dalai Lama had spent his exile in India from 1910 to 1912 following the Chinese invasion of Tibet at that time.

Teas grown on the misty heights of Darjeeling, popularly known as the "Champagne of Tea" are famous world over for their exquisite taste. The premium Darjeeling tea are mild in character and have distinctive natural fruity flavors. The different steps in Tea manufacture can be seen in the factory of Tukvar Tea Estate.

While visiting the gardens and factory, you will see how the leaf is brought in from the fields, weighed, and then taken through the processes of withering, rolling, fermenting, drying and sorting.

In the afternoon, experience the Toy Train - the world's most famous, two feet gauge railway. It is a masterpiece of 19th century engineering and a product of the world's first industrial revolution. To the serious rail enthusiast, who makes it his business to visit as many interesting railway sites as he can, the DHR is the "Holy Grail" of narrow gauge railways. There are active DHR societies in the UK, and Australia, affiliated to the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway Heritage Foundation, which share the common goal of ensuring the preservation of the railway. In 1999, UNESCO declared the DHR a World Heritage Site, thereby according it recognition as a master work of human endeavour.

In the evening, you will be visiting Nathmulls Tea Lounge where you will enjoy tasting of various teas grown in Darjeeling.

  • any other activities or items not explicitly advertised as included in the price of a Tour

 

Reservations/Booking and Deposits:  To book a Tour, each Traveler (or leader of a Group of Travelers) must submit:

 

A.     A completed booking form signed electronically by the main Traveler. By submitting the booking form on the payments page, the traveler accepts our full Terms and Conditions.  

B.     A deposit of 30% of the Tour price (minimum $250 per person), is due immediately upon booking.

C.     The full balance of the trip cost is due ninety days (90) before the trip departure date.

D.      If you book your trip with us ninety days (90 days) or less before the departure date, the full cost of the trip is due at that time.

E.      In the instance payment is made by certified check or wire transfer, reservations will only commence once the check is cleared.

F.      Availability of Services and Accommodations cannot be guaranteed until a Tour is booked.  We will exercise our best efforts to book the Services and Accommodations described in the Tour Itinerary, however, in busy seasons and with client bookings made within 90 days of Tour date, we may be forced to offer substitutes.  In this instance we will notify you as soon as possible and try to substitute comparable Services and Accommodations based on availability.

G.     Ticketing & credit card processing for international transport and other select domestic airfare pertaining to a specific country is done by a 3rd party and not included in your total land package price unless otherwise stated.

H.     Cancellations of confirmed bookings 90 days or more prior to departure will receive full refund minus a $250 (per person) administrative fee and any non-refundable paid fees (e.g. non-refundable airfare, cruise or hotel deposits). 60-89 days will be subject to loss of 30% of program price. 30-59 days will be subject to loss of 50% of program price. 29 days or less will be subject to loss of 100% of program price.

       *NOTE: Certain destinations require a 30% non-refundable deposit at the time of booking and therefore, would supersede our standard cancellation policy prior to 90 days in this instance.
