Day 1
Montevideo

Welcome to Montevideo Airport. A Travelous representative awaits your arrival at passenger pick up holding a sign with your name printed on it. Private transfer provided by English speaking driver to your hotel.

Head to the lively port market for a typical Uruguayan "Parrilla" at El Palenque Restaurant. After lunch, walk through the old city, which was once surrounded by a wall that protected the first settlers. Visit the Carnival Museum to discover the Spanish tradition and African roots of the Uruguayan Carnival. Continue to the museum of Pre-Columbian Art followed by the Constitution Square to visit the Cathedral and the historical Cabildo building before arriving at the "Torres Garcia Art Museum", one of the most renowned art schools in Uruguay. Stop at the "Puro Verso" historical library for a quick coffee or fresh drink and then walk along the lovely pedestrian area to the "Solis Theatre". After visiting the theatre, enjoy a typical "uvita" drink at "Fun Fun", a traditional "tangueria" where the renowned Uruguayan tango singer Carlos Gardel would sing when he was in town. The walk culminates at Independence Square where the Old gate of the city is located in front of the statue of national hero "Jose Gervasio Artigas", which guards his mausoleum and where the iconic edifice "Palacio Salvo" is situated.

Montevideo

Following breakfast, explore various neighborhoods of Montevideo, which came about after the demolition of the Old City Walls in 1829. Visit the residential "Carrasco", the former summer area of the first settlers, Virgilio Square from which a panoramic views of the city can be appreciated. Continue onto Pocitos along the beautiful Coastal Rambla built between 1900 and 1910 bordering the River Plate until Punta Carretas, a lovely neighborhood with parks and squares. Then, continue to Downtown Montevideo where you will visit the Centenario Stadium (entrance not included), the Carriage Monument and the Obelisk, ending with a visit to the "Mercado Agricola" where guests will be able to taste a local artisan beer produced in the area and visit the local shops.

This morning, visit two stunning vineyards in the Montevideo wine region including wine tastings of Tannat fine wines at both wineries, followed by a delicious lunch at Juanico Winery.
