Day 2
London

This morning after breakfast meet your local guide for a full day private tour of London. Enjoy a panoramic tour of all the iconic sights such as Buckingham Palace & Changing of the Guard, The Houses of Parliament, Westminster Abbey & the Tower of London. Along the way, you will visit some of the London film locations that appeared in the Downton Abbey series: the gothic St. Pancras Railway Station where Edith & Michael met, Goldsmith's Hall that doubled as Buckingham Palace in the Christmas 2013 special, Lincoln's Inn Old Square and Fields, which was featured several times in season 4, the National Gallery where you too can view the "Piero della Francesca's Nativity" as Lady Grantham did with art historian Simon Bricker, The Royal Automobile Club where Henry Talbot professes his love of driving, the Royal Hospital Chelsea scene of the Duke of York's Regimental Barracks & the Prince Albert Memorial which also appeared in the 2013 Christmas special. Your guide will ensure you get all those important photographs while bringing the history of London to life.

Day 3
London

After breakfast, embark on a self-guided visit to the fascinating Imperial War Museum in London. The characters of Downton Abbey were hugely influenced by the Great War as indeed were the real-life inhabitants at Highclere Castle which was transformed into an army hospital by the then 5th Countess of Carnarvon, along with many other stately homes across the country. The First World War Galleries at the museum explain not just the history of the war but the effects this had on the nation as well as the role of women in the War at home, as portrayed by Sybil when she became a nurse.

After what will probably be a rather sombre morning, enjoy your lunch at leisure and make your way to the Mayfair area of London where you will meet your private guide. Mayfair, and in particular Saville Row & Jermyn Street, have long enjoyed a special relationship with the aristocracy and royalty of Britain. Appearance, style & etiquette were very much of the day and still a factor today. Your guide will escort you on a 3 hour walking tour exploring those topics, visiting shops including tailors, and where possible spend a few moments with some of those professionals who will explain the services and products they offer.

Day 4
The Cotswolds

This morning, depart London for the English countryside where a gentleman"s home is his castle! Experience an 18th century Georgian mansion, Basildon Park. This was the film location for Grantham House, the Crawley's London residence, despite its very rural location.

The afternoon, visit nearby Oxford with a walking tour of the town and a visit to one of the many colleges that make up the university. This is a place steeped in tradition and history and your guide will help you experience this wonderful place to the full extent.

Your destination for this evening is in the rural countryside setting of the Cotswolds.

Today will be a highlight of your tour, with visits to several film locations which should be very familiar to you. Subject to opening, begin your tour at Highclere Castle (the Real Downton Abbey), enjoy access to the castle and grounds of what will feel like your second home. The iconic exterior vista is enough to give goosebumps to even the most restrained fellow! Should the Castle be closed, you will visit the equally spectacular Blenheim Palace, the birthplace of Sir Winston Churchill and the current home to the 12th Duke of Marlborough.

In the afternoon, tour the villages of Bampton, Swinbrook, Shilton all of which feature heavily in the series including Cogges Manor Farm, a 13th century manor house that doubled as Yew Tree Farm.

The Royal Crescent - Classic Room

Day 7
London

No one really knows or fully understands their purpose, who erected them or even how, but the recently developed visitor center is an excellent resource that will help you reach your own conclusions. Today, you will also visit the town of Salisbury and its Cathedral, where impressive building aside, houses a preserved copy of the Magna Carta which you can view.

Return to London by aprox 18.00 hrs to check in to your hotel and freshen up before enjoying a farewell dinner at none other than Rules Restaurant as featured in Downton Abbey. Dress to impress and enjoy the unique atmosphere. In the event a reservation is not possible we will look to book at The Criterion which also featured in Downton Abbey or another similar grand cafe style restaurant.
