Day 1
Istanbul

Welcome to Istanbul! Upon arrival, you will be greeted by one of our local Travelous, English-speaking representatives who will be holding a sign with your name printed on it. Transfer in private vehicle with full assistance to your hotel for check-in.

Istanbul, formerly known as Byzantium, is an unbelievably fascinating city where ancient history meets innovation. As a result of its strategic location along the historic Silk Road, the only sea route between the Black Sea and the Mediterranean, Istanbul is the place where East and West come together in a harmonious fusion of color, sight and sound. Istanbul was once the capital of the Roman Empire, the Byzantine Empire, the Latin Empire and the Ottoman Empire. Today, it is in the top five most visited cities in the world offering an abundance of cultural, historic, architectural, gastronomic and natural wealth.

Enjoy an adventurous evening exploring the area or simply relaxing in your hotel.

Hotel Sultania - Deluxe Room

Day 2
Istanbul

Enjoy a fun-filled in-depth privately guided exploration of Istanbul. Begin with a visit to the Hippodrome, which is the scene of Byzantine chariot races. Visit the Blue Mosque, built between 1609-1616 with more than 20,000 blue Iznik (Nicaea) tiles. Continue to Topkapi Palace, the imperial residence of Ottoman sultans, housing 600-year-old souvenirs and exhibiting imperial treasure.

Following a delicious lunch, continue to the St. Sophia Museum, one of the greatest marvels of architecture. Once a patriarchal basilica before it was converted into an Islamic mosque, now, it is one of the most visited museums in the world. Finally, visit the famous Grand Covered Bazaar, which is the world's largest and oldest covered market with over 60 streets. Go for a "shopping spree" in this labyrinth of more than 4000 shops. Choose leather, carpets, jewels or copper crafts, but be sure to bargain!

Day 3
Safranbolu

Today, a local representative will meet you at your hotel and accompany you on a five-hour drive to the beautiful seaside town of Safranbolu.

Safranbolu is an idyllic and classic Black Sea town with narrow, winding streets and shops and cafes operating out of restored wooden Ottoman-era structures, konaks. Safranbolu is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Stroll through the winding streets and perhaps make your way up to the hilltop for a panoramic view of this gorgeous area.

Gulevi Safranbolu - Standard Room

Day 4
Safranbolu

Today, you will go on a city tour of this beautiful beach town of Amasra. In the 6th century BCE, Amasra was called Sesamus, and its inhabitants were known as the Megara people. The town has a cute small harbor with a Roman bridge and watchtower overlooking the sea.

You will have some free time to discover Amasra. We recommend visiting the enchanted Amasra Castle, which was built during the Roman period. The front walls and gates were built by the Genoese in the 14th and 15th centuries. Though the castle is located on a narrow peninsula, a tunnel under the castle leads to a fresh water pool. The Archaeological Museum by the sea with remains from both land and underwater is another suggested destination. Be sure to look for the statue of the snake god Glykon, a fraudulent creation of a local entrepreneur during Roman imperial times. Another must-see is the church mosque, built as a Byzantine church in the 9th century AD. T. After Fatih Sultan Mehmet conquered Amasra in 1460 AD, it was converted to a mosque.

Day 5
Ankara

After breakfast, you will travel to Ankara, the capital city of Turkey.

Ankara is a very old city with various Hittite, Phrygian, Hellenistic, Roman, Byzantine, and Ottoman archaeological sites. The ruins of the ancient castle, giving this part of the city an almost medieval charm, crown the hill overlooking the city. Only a few historic structures surrounding the old citadel have survived to the present day. There are, however, many well-preserved remains of Ottoman, Hellenistic and Roman architecture, the most remarkable being the Temple of Augustus and Rome (20 BC), which is also known as the Monumentum Ancyranum.

The Ankara city tour starts with a visit to the extensive Ankara Castle, which underwent serious repairs in 1823 under the Ottoman Empire. After exploring the area, you will head to the Anatolian Civilizations Museum, which was named the "European Museum of the Year" in 1997. After having a delicious lunch at a local restaurant, continue to visit Ataturk's Mausoleum to learn more about the great leader who founded the Republic of Turkey. Inside the Mausoleum, you will visit the museum that holds many historical artifacts and objects.

JW Marriott Ankara - Deluxe Room

Day 6
Amasya

After breakfast, you will make your way Hatussas (now called Bogazcale), the former capital city of the Hittites on the Bronze Age.

After a three-hour drive, you will arrive at Yazilikaya, which is two miles from the main ruins. Bas-reliefs of ceremonial processions were carved into the sheer walls of this natural holy place. Four temples were located here, each set around a porticoed courtyard, together with secular buildings and residential structures. Outside the walls are cemeteries, most of which contain cremation burials

Stop for lunch at a local restaurant in Bogazkale before continuing to Alacahoyuk, which is located about 22 miles north of Bogazkale to visit the Monumental Graves of the Kingdom Family of Hittites. End your day by transferring to Amasya for overnight.

There will be time to explore the city and stroll through the streets andlocal bazaars. After lunch, you will drive from Amasya to Trabzon, which is about a six hour journey.

Trabzon is a city on the Black Sea coast of northeastern Turkey and the capital of Trabzon Province. Trabzon, located on the historical Silk Road, became a melting pot of religions, languages and culture for centuries as well as a trade gateway to Iran. Venetian and Genoese merchants used to visit this area during the medieval period and sold silk, linen and woolen fabric. It is a city that has many historical sites and offers visitors an array of natural and cultural possibilities.

Day 8
Trabzon

Get ready for a full day of excitement during your Trabzon city tour. You will begin your tour with the church of Hagia Sophia, beautifully situated in the western suburb outside the city walls and overlooking the Black sea. Hagia Sophia is a great Byzantine monument with its architectural style and well-preserved paintings and frescoes on its interior walls. It was first built probably in the 4th century, on the site of a temple erected by the roman emperor Hadrian. It was rebuilt by the Comneni dynasty in the 13th century. In the garden of the Church, there is a small collection of Roman, Byzantine and Ottoman funerary monuments and fragments of sculpture.

After the Hagia Sophia tour, you will return to the town center for lunch and to spend the afternoon in the colorful bazaar crowded by locals. Here, you can find almost anything from gold, copper and silver, to textiles and local products.

End your day with a visit to the Sumela Monastery. Nestled on a ledge in a steep cliff and overlooking forests and streams, the monastery has an incredibly rich history. The monastery was founded in 386 AD during the reign of the Emperor Theodosius I. Legend has it that two priests undertook its creation after discovering a miraculous icon of the Virgin Mary in a cave on the mountain.

The project was initiated to survive the richness and subtlety of life which flourished during the 18th century in Safranbolu which is currently inscribed in the UNESCO World Heritage List. Gul and \u304\'49brahim Canbulat acquired three neighboring Ottoman mansions in the early 2000s and started running these buildings following restoration. All three mansions date back to the 18th century. Damage and wear due to time and human intervention were recovered by the restoration process; the mansions were granted their genuine architectonics. Modern facilities required for the present-day functions of these mansions were installed without distorting the authentic integrity of the Ottoman mansion. Gulevi Safranbolu offers 18th century elegant life style with no compromise on contemporary appliances.

Preserving the original divans, each room has been decorated with fabrics of different color and texture, atlas quilts, embroidery curtains and Turkmen carpets.
