Day 1
Habarana

Welcome to Sri Lanka! Upon arrival at the airport, you will be greeted by one of our local Travelous, English-speaking representatives who will be holding a sign with your name printed on it. Your guide will escort you to your hotel in Habarana in a private, air-conditioned vehicle and assist you with check-in.

Arrive in Habarana the heart of the ancient kingdoms. You will spend three nights at the Galkadawala Forest Lodge, which is an eco retreat center situated in the middle of Sri Lanka"s Cultural Triangle. This is a paradise for birds and birders.

In the afternoon, visit the Ritigala Jungle Monastery, which is nestled deep inside the Ritigala Strict Nature Reserve. Ritigala is a fascinating nature reserve that harbors countless species of rare flora and fauna. You will also find the partially excavated ruins of a large Buddhist monastery. The ruins date from pre-Christian times. The monastery was abandoned following the South Indian invasions in the 10th and 11 Centuries, but still holds a special charm. The order of ritual bathing tank, ruins of entrance complex and a pedestrian path seem to indicate devotees in large numbers visiting the monastery.

Day 2
Habarana

After breakfast, you will head to the ancient city of Polonnaruwa.

This medieval city, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, rose to fame as the capital (10th - 12th century AD) after the decline of Anuradhapura. The entire landscape of the region is punctuated by huge man-made reservoirs, the most famous of which is the Parakrama Samudra or the Sea of Parakrama, larger in size than the Colombo harbour.

In the afternoon, you will visit the Sigiriya Rock Fortress, which is one of Sri Lanka"s major attractions. The most impressive facets of the unique complex are the Water Gardens, the Frescoes of beautiful maidens, the Mirror Wall with ancient graffiti, the Lion platform and the Summit of 1.6 hectares, which was completely covered by buildings during the period of Sigiriya"s glory. Built by King Kashyapa (477-495 A.D), the "Lion Rock" is a citadel of unusual beauty rising 200m from the scrub jungle. The rock was the innermost stronghold of the 70 hectare fortified town and the base is ringed by a moat, rampart, and extensive gardens.
