Bustling Cairo, "the city of a thousand minarets" is the largest city in the Middle-East. On its west side lies the capital of the Old Kingdom, Memphis, still hints of ancient days of grandeur and triumph. On its east side lies the beautiful Garden City, with its lush, sprawling gardens and expansive ornamental palaces. From medieval markets to oriental dance shows; from Roman ruins to the mighty Pyramids of Giza & Sphinx, there is never a dull moment in this city!

Transfer in private vehicle with English speaking driver from the Airport to your hotel for overnight.

Every day when the sun sets, the famous pyramids on the Giza plateau south of Cairo are absorbed in the darkness of the night. Thousands of years have passed since the Pharaohs walked on this Earth, but with your imagination, the Pyramid Sound & Light show tells an interactive story of Ancient Egypt.

Day 2
Cairo

Get ready for an adventurous day exploring the vibrant city of Giza! Your private certified Egyptologist will provide a fascinating introduction to each of the three famed pyramids of Giza. You will have some free time to wander about these awe-inspiring pyramids and to visit the Solar Boat Museum which houses the intact solar ship vessel from Ancient Egypt.

Following the Great Pyramids, you will continue across the plateau for a photo opportunity of the pyramids rising from the sands, with the Cairo skyline in the background. A short drive to the city side of the plateau finds you standing at the feet of the Sphinx, the enigmatic symbol of Egypt for thousands of years.

Head to the Mena House for a delicious lunch and then you are off again to Saqqara, the vast, ancient burial ground, which served as the necropolis for the Ancient Egyptian capital, Memphis. Your guide will provide a brief history of the famous step Pyramid of Zoser. You will have free time to explore the area. Your final stop is Memphis, the ancient capital of Egypt. Here you will see artifacts from many of the great rulers of Egypt, including the huge fallen statue of Ramses II.

After your day tour, you will be taken back to your hotel for a chance to freshen up before your Sunset Camel Ride. Set out before dusk towards the Ancient Pyramids of Giza where camels will take you on an unforgettable night in the desert! Take in the incredible sights through the golden sand dunes. Your last stop will be at the Theban Necropolis, which was used for ritual burials during pharaonic times.

Day 5
Nile

The city of Edfu houses the Ptolemaic Temple of Horus, dedicated to the falcon-god Horus and built over a period of two thousand years. You will leave your boat for a tour of this incredible archeological treasure. The inner walls of the building tell the mysterious story of Horus coming into existence. Horus was born upon the death of his father, Osiris, the god of the underworld who was killed by his brother, Seth. The much beloved goddess Isis brought Horus into life from a piece of Osiris' flesh. Horus later battled Seth and won the battle but lost an eye in the process. Hence, the eye of Horus has important religious symbolism in ancient Egyptian mythology.

The Temple of Edfu was abandoned as a religious monument following Theodosius I's edict banning non-Christian worship within the Roman Empire. Many of the temple's carved reliefs were destroyed in the process. The blackened ceiling of the hypostyle hall, visible today, is believed to be the result of arson intended to destroy religious imagery, which was considered pagan.

Visit the unique Temple of Kom Ombo, remarkable for it its double design. As you walk through the temple complex, notice that the courts, halls, sanctuaries and rooms are duplicated for two sets of gods. The southern half of the temple was dedicated to the crocodile god Sobek, god of fertility and creator of the world. Meanwhile, the northern part of the temple was dedicated to the falcon god Haroeris, also known as Horus the Elder. A few of the three hundred crocodile mummies discovered in the vicinity are displayed in The Crocodile Museum. Make sure to visit the strange instruments resembling surgical tools, located in the southeast corner of the complex!

Day 6
Nile - Aswan

Begin your exciting Aswan tour with a stop at the High Dam of Aswan, a modern architectural project containing more than 18 times the material used to build the Great Pyramid of Khufu! From a pavilion perched over the enormous rock and clay dam, you can admire the Temple of Kalabsha and one of the largest man-made lakes in the world, the impressive Lake Nasser.

Head onwards to the Unfinished Obelisk, which was ordered by the longest reigning female pharaoh, Hatshepsut, ruling the scene for over 22 years. The Obelisk was carved straight out of bedrock but, it was quickly abandoned when large latent cracks were discovered on either side. This abandoned monument gives great insight into the stone-cutting techniques and tools used by the skilled ancient Egyptian workers.

Your last stop will be at the fascinating Temple of Philae, moved to the Island of Agilkia after the waters of Lake Nasser flooded its original location. Dedicated to the greatly-revered goddess Isis, the Temple attracted thousands of pilgrims yearly during ancient times. Now encircled by crystal blue waters and adorned with lush foliage, the Temple will draw you in to discover the secrets of a bygone era.

Explore Aswan by traditional felucca and sail to Kitchener Island. Take a stroll through the peaceful gardens that display an array of colorful species of plants and trees. Visit the botanical gardens and learn about plants that have been imported from the most remote and exotic places in the world.

Day 9
Amman - Petra

Transfer to Jerash - one of the best preserved Roman provincial towns in the world. The ancient city of Jerash boasts an unbroken chain of human occupation dating back more than 6,500 years. Conquered by General Pompey in 63 BC, it came under Roman rule and was one of the ten great Roman cities known as the Decapolis League.

The city's golden age came under Roman rule, during which time it was known as Gerasa. Hidden for centuries in sand before being excavated and restored over the past 70 years, Jerash reveals a fine example of the grand, formal Roman urbanism that is found throughout the Middle East, comprising of paved and colonnaded streets, soaring hilltop temples, handsome theatres, spacious public squares and piazzas, baths, fountains and city walls pierced by towers and gates.

Beneath its external Greco-Roman veneer, Jerash also preserves a subtle blend of east and west. Its architecture, religion and languages reflect a process by which two powerful cultures meshed and coexisted, the Greco-Roman world of the Mediterranean basin and the traditions of the Arab Orient. Lunch at the Lebanese House Restaurant is included with this half day tour.

Transfer in private vehicle from Amman to Petra. Driving time is 3 hours.

To visit Petra during daylight is awe-inspiring, to experience it by the light of 1,800 candles is truly an out-of-this-world experience! Walk through the Siq to the Khazneh, following a candle-lit path and enjoy the haunting music of the Bedouin at the Treasury. Tours start at 8.30pm and operates every Monday, Wednesday and Thursday.

Movenpick Petra - Superior Room

Day 10
Petra - Wadi Rum

The wonder of Petra is without a doubt, Jordan's most valuable treasure and greatest tourist attraction. It is a vast, unique city, carved into the sheer rock face by the Nabateans; an industrious Arab people who settled here more than 2000 years ago. It was turned into an important junction for the silk, spice and other trade routes that linked China, India and southern Arabia with Egypt, Syria, Greece and Rome.

Entrance to the city is through the Siq, a narrow gorge, over 1 kilometer in length flanked on either side by soaring, 80 meters high cliffs. Just walking through the Siq is an experience in itself. The colors and formations of the rocks are dazzling. As you reach the end of the Siq you will catch your first glimpse of Al-Khazneh (Treasury). This is an awe-inspiring experience. A massive facade, carved out of the sheer, dusky pink, rock-face and dwarfing everything around it. It was carved in the early 1st century as the tomb of an important Nabatean king and represents the engineering genius of these ancient people.

The Treasury is just the first of the many wonders that make up Petra. You will need at least four or five days to really explore everything here. As you enter the Petra valley you will be overwhelmed by the natural beauty of this place and its outstanding architectural achievements. There are hundreds of elaborate rock-cut tombs with intricate carvings - unlike the houses, which were destroyed mostly by earthquakes, the tombs were carved to last throughout the afterlife and 500 have survived, empty but bewitching as you file past their dark openings. Here, also is a massive Nabatean-built, Roman-style theatre, seating 3,000 people. There are obelisks, temples, sacrificial altars & colonnaded streets, and high above, overlooking the valley, is the impressive Ad-Deir Monastery - a flight of 800 rock cut steps takes you there. Lunch will be served at Basin Restaurant inside the Petra site.

Transfer in private vehicle from Petra to Wadi Rum. Driving time is 1.5 hours.

Also known as the 'Valley of the Moon', the Wadi Rum Reserve is a timeless place, virtually untouched by humanity and its destructive forces. Here, it is the weather and winds that have carved the imposing, towering skyscrapers, so elegantly described by T.E. Lawrence as "vast, echoing and god-like". A maze of monolithic rockscape rise from the desert floor to heights of 1,750 meters. Ideal for hiking, rock climbing and desert trekking, one can enjoy the tranquility of the boundless empty spaces, explore the canyons and water holes to discover 4000-year-old rock drawings and many other spectacular treasures this wilderness holds within.

Explore this vast terrain with your private 4x4 Closed Top jeep safari inside Wadi Rum including the Lawrence Spring, and Khazalee mountain (duration is 2 hrs).

Suncity Camp - Martian Dome

Day 11
Madaba - Dead Sea Jordan

Welcome to Madaba. Best known for its spectacular Byzantine and Umayyad mosaics, Madaba is home to the famous 6th century Mosaic Map of Jerusalem and the Holy Land. With two million pieces of vividly colored local stone, it depicts hills and valleys, villages and towns as far as the Nile Delta. The Madaba Mosaic Map covers the floor of the St. George Greek Orthodox Church. Built in 1896 AD, over the remains of a much earlier 6th century Byzantine church. The mosaic panel enclosing the Map was originally around 15.6 X 6m, 94 square meters, only about a quarter of which is preserved.

Continue to visit Mount Nebo, the mountaintop memorial of Moses with captivating views of the Jordan Valley, Dead Sea and The River Jordan. A small Byzantine church was built there by the early Christians, which has been expanded into a vast complex. During his visit to Jordan in 2001, the Late Pope John Paul II held a sermon here that was attended by some 20,000 faithful.
