After breakfast, get ready for your fun-filled and in-depth Istanbul tour. Your tour starts with a visit to the Hippodrome, which is the scene of Byzantine chariot races. Then visit the Blue Mosque, which was built between 1609-1616 and has more than 20,000 blue Iznik (Nicaea) tiles. Next, you will visit Topkapi Palace, the imperial residence of Ottoman sultans, housing 600 year-old souvenirs and exhibiting imperial treasure.

Once you've savored a delicious lunch, you will continue to the St. Sophia Museum, one of the greatest marvels of architecture. It was once a patriarchal basilica before it was converted into an Islamic mosque. Now, it is one of the most visited museums in the world. Finally, visit the famous Grand Covered Bazaar, which is the world"s largest and oldest covered market with over 60 streets. Go for a "shopping spree" in this labyrinth of more than 4000 shops. Choose leather, carpets, jewels or copper crafts, but be sure to bargain!

You'll be amazed by the utterly surreal landscapes where troglodyte villages, subterranean churches and fortresses have been hewn from the soft, porous, eerily eroded rock of Cappadocia. The crumbling legacy of persecuted Christians trying to escape the Muslim onslaught in 1st - 10th centuries AD by effectively heading underground is one of Turkey"s finest attractions.

Your guided tour of the region includes the World Heritage Listed Goreme Valley to see fascinating examples of rock-cut Byzantine churches and chapels. Stopping on the outskirts of Goreme Village, you will have the opportunity to visit Pigeon Valley where century"s old pigeon houses are carved into the surrounding cliffs. The pigeon droppings that litter the area have been used as fertilizer on crops for generations. Here you will also have be able to visit an Onyx shop, specializing in historic jewelry designs unique to Turkey (using local materials and craftsmen). For those not interested in shopping, spend a little time relaxing and savor a Turkish coffee at the local cafe.

Cappadocia

After breakfast at the hotel, enjoy a full day group exploring the wonders of Cappadocia.

Your first stop will be at the Ortahisar, a natural citadel carved in rocks. Then visit Subterranean City of Kaymakli or Derinkuyu, established in the 7th century by Christians fleeing persecution, in which a visitor is able to descend several floor levels. Drive to Cavusin Valley to see the troglodyte dwellings where people lived until mid-20th century.

After lunch, continue on to visit to Red Valley for some stunning views of the surrounding area. The tour will culminate with a visit to a Wine House where you"ll be able to taste delicious local wines. Cappadocia is famous for its fertile vineyards due to the mineral-laden volcanic soil of the area.

After the tour, you"ll be brought back to your hotel where you might choose to spend a leisurely evening enjoying the hotel facilities.

On this tour, you will visit the most popular sites in Pergamum. Your first stop is one of the Seven Churches of the Revelation that was rivaled only by Ephesus in its wealth, temples, and beauty. Then, visit the ancient Acropolis, which dominates the view from all around. Step back in time as you visit the Library, the great Altar of Zeus, the Sanctuary of Athena, the Temple of Dionysus, the restored Temple of Trajan and the Theatre. South of the Acropolis is the Asclepion, one of the three most famous sanctuaries of Asclepios, the God of Healing. It was an ideal spot for pilgrims to enjoy the medicinal and spiritual benefits of the spa. Walk the Sacred Way to see the Sacred Well and the Serpent Altar - the symbol of modern day medicine.

Izmir

Drive through the Turkish countryside to the House of the Virgin Mary where the Blessed Virgin is reputed to have spent the last years of her life. The site was made famous by the visits of Pope Paul VI and Pope John Paul II. In November of 2006, Pope Benedict the 16th paid an official visit to the House of the Virgin Mary and celebrated mass there. Outside is the Fountain of Our Lady where you can taste or collect this blessed water.

As you enter Ephesus, you will pass through the Magnesia Gate and enter the administrative section of this ancient city. The guided walking tour will take you through one of the most magnificent excavations in the world. You'll see the Odeon, the Fountain of Trajan, the steam baths of Scholastika, the Temple of Hadrian and one of the most famous structures, the Library of Celsus. The facade of the library has two stories with towering Corinthian-style columns on the ground floor and three entrances to the building.

Next, you'll visit the Grand Theater where Paul the Apostle preached to large audiences. It is one of the greatest theaters in antiquity with a capacity of 24,000 seats. You"ll then head to the Arcadian way, where Mark Anthony and Cleopatra once rode in procession. Your final visit is to the remains of St. John's Basilica which overlooks Ephesus and was once a great church built on a 2nd century tomb (thought to hold the remains of St. John). While the church is now in ruins, there are frescoes, mosaics and graceful columns that attest to the glory that marked the place where St. John the Evangelist lived and died.

Izmir

After breakfast, you will start your journey to Pamukkale (literally meaning "cotton castle" in English). Your tour begins with a visit to Hierapolis, which means "holy city," to see the magnificently preserved Necropolis, the Main Street and Gates, the thermal Baths, the devil"s hole, and the Masterpiece Theatre. The city"s hot springs and travertines, (terraces of carbonate minerals left by the flowing water) are especially spectacular. Enjoy a swim in one of these crystal clear and turquoise blue natural baths!

Next, you will visit the Greco-Roman site of Aphrodisias. The primary temple of Aphrodite, the goddess of love was found here. The city became known as an artistic center during the Roman Era because of the marble sculptures that were produced out of the marble quarry nearby.

This area also have an incredibly large stadium that has been preserved through the ages as well as an Amphitheatre that offers beautiful views of the surrounding area.

Day 8
Bodrum

After breakfast, you will depart on an adventure though Didyma, Miletus and Priene.

Your tour day begins at the ancient sanctuary of Didyma, which was one of the three main oracles. It was a center of the cult of Apollo, the god of divination. Divination was extremely popular during the Classical period and the Apollo Temple was a very important place for the people until Christianity became the primary religion. One of the central attractions: a stone-carved Medusa head.

Next, its off to Miletus, which had nearly 90 colonies and was one of the greatest and wealthiest of all the Greek cities. It was the main trade center in Anatolia for a long time, and was also rich in culture, science, philosophy and architecture.

Established in 350 BC at the base of a steep escarpment, your final stop will be at the beautiful Priene (the favorite home of Alexander The Great), one of the best natural settings of the ancient world. Being ruled by the Ionians, Lydians and the Persians, the city eventually came under the domain of Alexander the Great.

Transfer to the resort town of Bodrum for overnight.

Bodrum has a rich history that goes back to the 12th century B.C. The city, which was called 'Halicarnassus', was the birthplace of Herodotus. Herodotus, the 'Father of History," lived in the 5th century B.C and wrote the first great narrative in the ancient world.

The 'Mausoleum' of King Mausolus, (350 B.C.) one of the Seven Wonders of the World, is in this city. The only structure that survived from the Classical Era is the Amphitheatre. It is one of the oldest theatres in Anatolia with a capacity of 13.000 guests and it still hosts many shows and concerts Another incredible touristic site is the landmark of the city, theCastle of Saint Peter. It is one of the best-preserved castles in the country whose history goes back to the Middle Ages. 'Myndos Gate,' that gave Alexander the Great some sleepless nights before he entered Halicarnassus, is another site to behold.

Today gives you the opportunity to spend the day as you wish. Whether you choose to explore the nearby islands, go fishing, scuba dive, fill the day with additional sightseeing, or simply lounge by the pool, there's always something to do in Bodrum!

After breakfast, enjoy some leisure time at your resort to indulge in the amenities on offer.

In the afternoon, you will embark on a city tour of Bodrum. The Castle of St. Peter is located in the center of the town and is famous for its towers as well as its underwater museum. You will have a chance to see the Mausoleum; a tomb built between 353 and 350 BC by Halicarnassus for Mausolos, the King of Caria. This Mausoleum is one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. Only some remains are visible and the original Mausoleum is being exhibited in the British Museum. Following the Mausoleum, there will be time for browsing and shopping in the markets.

End the day by taking in a beautiful sunset on the beach or at a bustling cafe.

Today, your private guide will take you on an exciting Istanbul sightseeing tour! Begin your day with a visit the lavish Dolmabahce Palace, built by Sultan Abdulmecit between 1843 and 1856 and famous for being the first European- style palace in Istanbul. The Dolmabahce Palace, the primary administrative center of the Ottoman Empire, is also renowned for its collection of European antiquity, furniture and absolutely enormous chandelier.

Your next activity is to embark on an incredible cruise along the Bosphorus- the strait connecting Europe to Asia. Seat yourself comfortably on the deck as you cruise through its stunning blue waters of, enjoying the view of the traditional waterfront houses built by the Ottomans at the turn of this century. After lunch at a local restaurant, you will continue to the Spicebazaar, one of the largest and most solicited shopping complex in the city. Reservations/Booking and Deposits:  To book a Tour, each Traveler (or leader of a Group of Travelers) must submit:

 

A.     A completed booking form signed electronically by the main Traveler. By submitting the booking form on the payments page, the traveler accepts our full Terms and Conditions.  

B.     A deposit of 30% of the Tour price (minimum $250 per person), is due immediately upon booking.

C.     The full balance of the trip cost is due ninety days (90) before the trip departure date.

D.      If you book your trip with us ninety days (90 days) or less before the departure date, the full cost of the trip is due at that time.

E.       In the instance payment is made by certified check or wire transfer, reservations will only commence once the check is cleared.

F.       Availability of Services and Accommodations cannot be guaranteed until a Tour is booked.  We will exercise our best efforts to book the Services and Accommodations described in the Tour Itinerary, however, in busy seasons and with client bookings made within 90 days of Tour date, we may be forced to offer substitutes.  In this instance we will notify you as soon as possible and try to substitute comparable Services and Accommodations based on availability.

G.      Ticketing & credit card processing for international transport and other select domestic airfare pertaining to a specific country is done by a 3rd party and not included in your total land package price unless otherwise stated.

H.      Cancellations of confirmed bookings 90 days or more prior to departure will receive full refund minus a $250 (per person) administrative fee and any non-refundable paid fees (e.g. non-refundable airfare, cruise or hotel deposits). 60-89 days will be subject to loss of 30% of program price. 30-59 days will be subject to loss of 50% of program price. 29 days or less will be subject to loss of 100% of program price.
