Welcome to Sri Lanka! Upon arrival at the airport, you will be greeted by one of our local Travelous, English-speaking representatives who will be holding a sign with your name printed on it. Your guide will escort you to your hotel in Negombo in a private, air-conditioned vehicle and assist you with check-in.

Get ready for a city tour of fascinating Negombo by boat cruising through the Dutch Canal. The Canal, which was once an important route for the Dutch colonialists, runs for more than 60 miles and cuts right through the heart of Negombo. Look out for water monitors and kingfishers as well as a variety of birdlife!

Today, you will have the rare opportunity of visiting an elephant orphanage!

After an early breakfast, you will visit the Pinnawella Elephant Orphanage where you will have the chance to participate in the feeding of the elephants and maybe even take part in the bathing process!

Then, visit Club Concept to enjoy an elephant back ride and maybe get an elephant shower. This excursion is the ethical elephant experience you've been looking for!

Afterwards, you will drive to Habarana . The drive is about 2 hours and you will drive thru rural cointryside.

Today, you will climb the Sigiriya Rock Fortress, also known as the 8th Wonder of the World.

The Sigiriya Fortress was built by King Kasyapa in the 5th century A.D. and was a royal citadel for more than 18 years. In a sheltered pocket, accessed by a spiral stairway, are the famous frescoes. The summit of the rock, with an area of nearly one hectare, was the site of the palace, and the outer wall was built on the very brink of the precipice. The UNESCO sponsored Central Cultural Fund has restored Sigiriya 5th century water gardens to their former glory.

This Afternoon you will embark on a Safari.Minneriya is a haven for the elephants that migrate from surrounding jungles to enjoy the lush grass fields on the banks of the Minneriya reservoir, during the dry season. Reports of elephant sightings range from an impressive 100 to 200. The central feature of the park is the ancient Minneriya Tank (built in 3rd century AD by King Mahasena). This tank is generally known as a place to observe the elephants that come to bathe and graze on the grasses as well as the huge flocks of birds that come to fish in the shallow waters.

Wasgamuwa - Kandy

Early morning, you will be taken for a breathtaking safari at the Wasgumuwa National Park.

After breakfast you will head to Kandy, visiting a Spice Garden in Matale, on route. For centuries, spices have been one of Sri Lanka's celebrated exports. Spices are mostly grown in home gardens and used not only to flavor food but also in medicine and cosmetics. Visit a Spice Garden and sample delicious scents and flavors like cinnamon, ginger, pepper, vanilla, cardamom etc.

The city of Kandy lies in the midst of hills in the Kandy plateau, which crosses an area of tropical plantations, mainly tea. Kandy is both an administrative and religious city and is also the capital of the Central Province.

Your final stop is at a cultural dance performance where you will see various rituals and ceremonies, which are centuries old. These are based on the folk religion and folk beliefs going back to Sinhalese era, before the dawn of Buddhism.

Kandy - Nuwara Eliya

Today, you will visit the one of the most important monuments in Sri Lanka, the Temple of the Tooth.

The Temple of the Tooth Relic is located in the royal palace complex, which houses the relic of the tooth of Buddha. Since ancient times, the relic has played an important role in local politics because it is believed that whoever holds the relic holds the governance of the country. Kandy was the last capital of the Sinhalese kings and is a UNESCO world heritage site, partly due to the temple.

Lets head off towards the "Tea Country" of Old Ceylon. Through beautiful mountain scenery continue towards Nuwara Eliya, the most popular hill resort in Sri Lanka, which is situated at 1.885 m high in the central hills. As the road winds higher, you will pass picturesque waterfalls, tumbling down hillsides and vantage points, which afford views over a panorama of rugged hills stretching far into the distance. On the way, visit a tea plantation and a factory, where you can observe the many stages of the tea manufacture.

After breakfast, you will get ready to visit the mystical National Park, Horton Plains.

Horton Plains, its surroundings forests and the adjoining peak wilderness, are of outstanding scenic beauty and conservation importance, unbelievably rich in flora and fauna. The western slopes support the most extensive area of montane cloud forest surviving in the country.

The scarce endemic bird; Sri Lanka's Whistling Thrush is found here. Other biodiversity highlights include the endemic primate Bear Monkey, Rhinohorned Lizard, Dwarf Lizard, Black-lipped Lizard, Giant Squirrel and Sambar. In addition to these, two new species of mammals have been recorded from here in the recent years (Highland Mouse-deer & Sri Lanka Highland Loris).

You will trek to the sharp precipice called "World"s End" which gives you an overwhelmingly beautiful panoramic view of the area below. Be there before 10 am when the mist starts rolling in! After visiting the majestic Baker"s Falls, you will hike back to your hotel.

In the afternoon, visit the Hakgala Botanical Gardens. It was once the pleasure garden of Ravana according to the Indian epic, Ramayana. An attraction here is the rose garden, where the sights and scents of these glorious blooms can be experienced in their infinite variety.

There is also the Orchid House where there is a variety of orchids, many of them endemic to Sri Lanka. Hakgala Botanical gardens is also a perfect location to see the highland phase of the Toque Monkey and the Purple-faced Leaf-monkey and birds such as the Yellow-eared Bulbul, Black Bulbul and the beautiful Scarlet Minivet.

Then, visit Ella for incredible views of the surrounding hill country! This location, also called "World's End," has a sharp drop that gives a breathtaking view of towering mountains, turquoise coasts and tea estates.

Yala National Park

After another short trip to Horton's Plains, you will make your way to Yala National Park by vehicle. The Yala National Park is the most visited National Park in Sri Lanka, mostly because it displays a wide array of natural beauty, in addition to housing significant wildlife.You will arrive here by noon and after eating lunch, you will set up camp for the evening.

In the late afternoon, you will be taken on a Jeep Safari that will unveil to you the habits of 44 different species of mammals, including the Sri Lankan Elephant and Leopard, the Toque Macaque (Old World Monkey), Golden Palm Civet, Red Slender Loris, and the Fishing Cat.

Enjoy morning and evening game drives at the Yala National Park.

Recently, the park has also received much fame through publicity by National Geographic and the Discovery TV channels, which focused on a leopard research/conservation and identification project. Claims have subsequently been made that Yala National Park has the world"s highest concentration of leopard per square kilometre. Vegetation is primarily grassland and shrub jungle with patches of dense growth while several salt and fresh water lagoons are a haven for a large variety of resident and migrant birds.

During this exciting game drive, your naturalist guides will point out the most exotic of wildlife; keep your eyes peeled and your camera ready!

Today, you will make your way to Galle where you'll be given a grand city tour!

Galle is a coastal town where the Dutch presence is still visible. Galle was an ancient port (said to be the legendary Tarshish of the Bible), and Sri Lanka's first international commerce and trade center. Today, Galle is the bustling provincial capital and administrative center of the south.

It is famous for its lovely Unawatuna Bay, where the sea is reef protected and therefore safe for swimming. Visit the old Dutch "Star Fort" (a World Heritages Site) covering 36 hectares, the well-preserved Groote Kerk (Dutch Church), the Dutch Government House, the New Oriental Hotel (built in 1684), the old bell tower and a tide-based Sewage-System, also introduced by the Dutch.

You will then be taken to your luscious beachfront hotel, where you will spend a relaxing evening.

Reservations/Booking and Deposits:  To book a Tour, each Traveler (or leader of a Group of Travelers) must submit:

 

A.     A completed booking form signed electronically by the main Traveler. By submitting the booking form on the payments page, the traveler accepts our full Terms and Conditions.  

B.     A deposit of 30% of the Tour price (minimum $250 per person), is due immediately upon booking.

C.     The full balance of the trip cost is due ninety days (90) before the trip departure date.

D.      If you book your trip with us ninety days (90 days) or less before the departure date, the full cost of the trip is due at that time.

E.      In the instance payment is made by certified check or wire transfer, reservations will only commence once the check is cleared.

F.      Availability of Services and Accommodations cannot be guaranteed until a Tour is booked.  We will exercise our best efforts to book the Services and Accommodations described in the Tour Itinerary, however, in busy seasons and with client bookings made within 90 days of Tour date, we may be forced to offer substitutes.  In this instance we will notify you as soon as possible and try to substitute comparable Services and Accommodations based on availability.

G.     Ticketing & credit card processing for international transport and other select domestic airfare pertaining to a specific country is done by a 3rd party and not included in your total land package price unless otherwise stated.

H.     Cancellations of confirmed bookings 90 days or more prior to departure will receive full refund minus a $250 (per person) administrative fee and any non-refundable paid fees (e.g. non-refundable airfare, cruise or hotel deposits). 60-89 days will be subject to loss of 30% of program price. 30-59 days will be subject to loss of 50% of program price. 29 days or less will be subject to loss of 100% of program price.

       *NOTE: Certain destinations require a 30% non-refundable deposit at the time of booking and therefore, would supersede our standard cancellation policy prior to 90 days in this instance.
