Hike mountainous plateaus to the Araba Valley, crossing several climate zones, diverse ecosystems, canyons, dramatic hills and valleys until reaching the Rose-Colored city of Petra where you will enter through the back door. Walk in the footsteps of the Nabateans as you explore ancient Petra, where you will see the architectural marvels that are the Monastery and Treasury, and the world-famous Petra Siq entrance. Welcome to Amman International Airport (also called Queen Alia). An Airport representative awaits your arrival holding a sign with your name printed on it, assisting you through the visa process (included) & luggage identification before introducing you to your Travelous representative & private English-speaking driver who will be on call throughout your entire stay.

A Jordanian Tourism Tax will be paid on your behalf upon entering the country to cover public liability insurance on equipment such as jeeps, camels and horses.

Transfer in private vehicle with English speaking driver from the Airport to your hotel for overnight.

In the early evening, your driver will be waiting to head downtown for a walking tour of the old city Amman to mix with the locals, eat Arabic Sweets (Knafeh) and drink fruit cocktails at a famous fruit stand. Return transfer provided.

Dana Nature Reserve

Transfer in private vehicle from Amman to Dana Nature Reserve. Driving time is approximately 3 hours.

Today you will hike to one of the most awe-inspiring sections of Jordan. This route was recently named one of the fifteen best hikes in the world, by National Geographic. The trail drops from the heights of the mountain plateaus to the Araba Valley and climbs back up again, traversing several climate zones, diverse ecosystems hidden in canyons, and dramatic labyrinths of hills and valleys displaying the incredible spectrum of the region's geology. From majestic and epic mountaintops to peaceful countryside, impressive new landscapes present themselves every few kilometers.

Day 3
Ras Al Feid

Hike Feynan - Wadi Malaqa - Ras Al Feid

Today you will hike from Feynan, heading south on 4 x 4 tracks to cross Wadi Malaga. Walk on footpaths to the eastern side of the smaller hills, Jabal al-Hamra, Jabal Mahzan and Jabal Barwas. With Wadi Araba to the West and the rising mountains to the East, gradually ascend the slope to cross Wadi Barwas, Wadi abu Hamdtha and Wadi al-Jilf to meet an old donkey and camel trail.

Climb this beautifully built trail through the jagged rocky mountain outcroppings, and see expansive views of Wadi Araba's to the west. Continue on the old Bedouin route reinforced with bridges using Juniper branches and switchbacks. Reach the saddle called Ras Naqb Shdeid, offering breath-taking views in both directions. Hike the old main route between Bir al-Saba and Shobak. Continue downhill following a small gully where you will meet a spring-fed Wadi Feid below. Here, you will have access a pool above a dried waterfall, great for cooling down and washing up. The stream in Wadi Feid is the last reliable water source before Little Petra (+24km).

Retrace your steps and follow Wadi Feid upstream through thick vegetation. Pass the remains of an old Nabatean water channel, where you will wade through a shallow section near the canals. The geology shifts to a dark purple sandstone, where an impressive Juniper tree sits above the junction. Today's hike ends here in Ras Al Feid.

Day 4
Siq Albarid

Hike Ras Al Feid - Little Petra

Today you will depart Ras Al Feid hiking along a rocky sandstone terrain. Throughout the journey you will see spectacular views of the barren desert landscape with surprise encounters of desert vegetation and animal life. Approaching Little Petra there are signs of increasing human habitation of Bedouin camps, sheep pens, and small agricultural plots. Enter a small sandstone canyon and wind your way through to the site of Beihdah.

Day 5
Petra

Hike Little Petra - The Monastery

Today you will hike to Petra via the back door! Hike down Wadi Ghurab amidst Sandstone Mountains guarding the approach to Petra. The hike follows a Nabataean route on a natural rock terrace, which slightly narrows before reaching a hidden plateau high above the impressive chasm of Wadi Siyyagh. Just beyond, beautifully carved into the cliff face, "The Monastery" will come into view. Nabataean steps lead down into ancient Petra, through which the route will continue to "The Treasury" and though the famous Petra entrance.
