Bustling Cairo, "the city of a thousand minarets" is the largest city in the Middle-East, groaning under the weight of over 20 million inhabitants. On its west side lies the capital of the Old Kingdom, Memphis, still hinting of ancient days of grandeur and triumph. On its east side lies the beautiful Garden City, with its lush, sprawling gardens and expansive ornamental palaces. Now a modern metropolis, Cairo is an utterly unique place that offers a vast array of monuments and activities appealing to every kind of visitor. From medieval markets to oriental dance shows and from Roman ruins to mighty Pyramids of Giza & Sphinx, there is never a dull moment in this city!

Day 2
Cairo

Get ready for an adventurous day exploring the vibrant city of Giza! Embark on a full day tour with your private certified Egyptologist who will provide a fascinating introduction to each of the three famed pyramids of Giza. You will have some free time to wander about these awe-inspiring pyramids and to visit the Solar Boat Museum which houses the intact solar ship vessel from Ancient Egypt.

Following the Great Pyramids, you will continue across the plateau for a photo opportunity of the pyramids rising from the sands, with the Cairo skyline in the background. A short drive to the city side of the plateau finds you standing at the feet of the Sphinx, the enigmatic symbol of Egypt for thousands of years.

Head to the Mena House for a delicious lunch and then you're off again to Saqqara, the vast, ancient burial ground, which served as the necropolis for the Ancient Egyptian capital, Memphis. Your guide will provide a brief history of the famous step Pyramid of Zoser and you will have free time to explore the area. Your final stop is Memphis, the ancient capital of Egypt. Here you will see artifacts from many of the great rulers of Egypt, including the huge fallen statue of Ramses II.

After some time to freshen up at your hotel, you will be taken on an exhilarating moonlit tour of Cairo!

During this evening tour, enjoy a delicious Egyptian dinner at Naguib Mafouz, located in the heart of the Khan Khalili bazaar in Cairo. Day 3
Cairo

Get ready for an exciting tour of Cairo! Your first stop will be at the elaborate Egyptian Museum to gaze at the wonders of King Tutankhamen, including his golden death mask. Examine the mummies of some of Egypt's ancient pharaohs and lose yourself in the many rooms and galleries, where thousands of artifacts await discovery.

After a delicious, ethnic lunch at a fantastic local restaurant, you will start your tour of religious Cairo. You will head towards the oldest mosque in Cairo, the Ibn Tulun Mosque. This mosque is located on the "Hill of Thanksgiving" and legend has it that this was the spot where Noah"s Ark came to rest after the flood. You will then see Coptic Cairo, starting with the Babylon Fortress, which encloses an assortment of Coptic churches and monasteries. You will then visit the Hanging Church, also known as El Muallaqa that was dedicated to the Virgin Mary and whose nave hangs over a passage. Day 4
Cairo - Abu Simbel - Aswan - Nile

Transfer in private vehicle with full assistance from your hotel to Cairo Airport.

Flight from Cairo to Abu Simbel. Duration is 2.5 hours.

Welcome to Abu Simbel. Rediscovered in 1813 by the Swiss explorer, John Lewis Burckhardt, the temples had long been forgotten and the sands of the desert sands had covered all but the tops of the heads of the huge statues in front of their entrances. Since 1909, when the sand was finally cleared away, these twin temples have become the most famous site in Egypt's south.

Transfer in private vehicle with English speaking driver to directly begin your tour.

Enjoy a private tour of Abu Simbel and its two massive rock temples. Although they seem like monuments to Ramesses II and his wife, both temples are actually temples dedicated to the gods. The larger temple with four huge statues of Ramesses II seated in front is dedicated to Amun, Ptah, and Re-Harakty. The second temple, although significantly smaller than the first, was built to honor Ramesses favorite wife, Nefertari, and is dedicated to the goddess Hathor.

The larger temple is aligned with the sun so that twice a year, the sun shines into its deepest recesses to illuminate a statue of Ramesses and the gods to which the temple is dedicated. The Abu Simbel Sun Festival takes places on February 22nd and October 22nd of every year to much fanfare with several thousand people gathering early in the morning to see this testament to the knowledge and skill that the ancient Egyptians possessed.

After your tour, you will be transferred back to the airport for a short flight to Aswan.

Flight from Abu Simbel to Aswan. Duration is 30 minutes.

Welcome to Aswan. Transfer provided in private vehicle with English speaking driver from the Airport to your hotel.

Aswan is Egypt's southernmost city and arguably one of the most visually stunning in terms of its location and geography. Once the gateway to inner Africa and today as the last port of call for all Nile river cruises, Aswan is particularly know for its two dams and blended Nubian Culture. A city that truly gives you the feeling that you are in Africa as opposed to a desert land, highlights include the Aswan High Dam, Temple of Philae, the Unfinished Obelisk, Mausoleum of Aga Khan, St. SImeon's Monastery and Kalabsha Temple.

Today, you will embark on an unforgettable 7-night cruise on the Oberoi Zahra. Discover ancient monuments, magnificent temples and five thousand years of Egyptian culture, in supreme style and comfort. While on board the cruiser, you can enjoy traditional dance and music performances, relax and refresh in the exquisite spa, swimming pool, on a sun-kissed deck, or in the comfort of your luxurious cabins.

Day 5
Nile - Aswan

Begin your exciting Aswan tour with a stop at the High Dam of Aswan, a modern architectural project containing more than 18 times the material used to build the Great Pyramid of Khufu! From a pavilion perched over the enormous rock and clay dam, you can admire the Temple of Kalabsha and one of the largest man-made lakes in the world, the impressive Lake Nasser.

Head onwards to the Unfinished Obelisk, which was ordered by the longest reigning female pharaoh, Hatshepsut, ruling the scene for over 22 years. The Obelisk was carved straight out of bedrock but it was quickly abandoned when large latent cracks were discovered on either sides. This abandoned monument gives great insight into the stone-cutting techniques and tools used by the skilled ancient Egyptian workers.

Your last stop will be at the fascinating Temple of Philae, moved to the Island of Agilkia after the waters of Lake Nasser flooded its original location. Dedicated to the greatly-revered goddess Isis, the Temple attracted thousands of pilgrims yearly during ancient times. Now encircled by crystal blue waters and adorned with lush foliage, the Temple will draw you in to discover the secrets of a bygone era.

In the evening, enjoy a sound and light show at the Temple of Philae, where the ancient world is brought back to life through exciting narrations and fascinating light combinations.

Day 6
Nile - Aswan

Explore Aswan by traditional felucca and sail to Kitchener Island. Take a stroll through the peaceful gardens that display an array of colorful species of plants and trees. Visit the botanical gardens and learn about plants that have been imported from the most remote and exotic places in the world.

Visit the unique Temple of Kom Ombo, remarkable for it its double design. As you walk through the temple complex, notice that the courts, halls, sanctuaries and rooms are duplicated for two sets of gods. The southern half of the temple was dedicated to the crocodile god Sobek, god of fertility and creator of the world. Meanwhile, the northern part of the temple was dedicated to the falcon god Haroeris, also known as Horus the Elder. A few of the three hundred crocodile mummies discovered in the vicinity are displayed in The Crocodile Museum. Make sure to visit the strange instruments resembling surgical tools, located in the southeast corner of the complex!

Day 7
Nile

Enjoy a delicious breakfast while your cruise boat sails through the Esna lock and continues onward to Edfu, home of the most well preserved temple in Egypt.

The city of Edfu houses the Ptolemaic Temple of Horus, dedicated to the falcon-god Horus. The temple was built by Ptolemy III in 237 BC and finished 200 years later by Ptolemy XIII, Cleopatra"s father.

You will leave your boat for a private tour of this incredible archeological treasure. The inners walls of the building tell the story of how Horus came into existence. Horus was conceived after the death of his father, Osiris, the god of the underworld. After Seth, Osiris" brother, had cut Osiris into pieces, his wife Isis magically used one of those pieces to bring Horus into life. Horus later battled Seth (now in the form of a miniature hippo) and won the battle but lost an eye in the process. The eye of Horus has important religious symbolism in ancient Egyptian mythology.

Day 8
Nile - Luxor

Today, your cruise boat will anchor in the incredible city of Luxor! Luxor, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, has frequently been characterized as the "world's greatest open air museum", as the ruins of the temple complexes at Karnak and Luxor stand within the modern city. Immediately opposite, across the River Nile lie the monuments, temples and tombs on the West Bank Necropolis, which include the Valley of the Kings and Valley of the Queens. Archeologically speaking, Luxor is the most important site in all of Egypt and a rare gem of a city that is unlike any other city in the world.

Your private tour day takes you through the East Bank of the Nile to visit the Temples of Luxor and Karnak, largely the work of Amenhotep III and Ramesses II, whose colossi and obelisk stand at the entrance. Walk along the Avenue of Sphinx as you enter the complex while your guide explains how the massive facade was constructed and explore the Karnak Open Air Museum that features an amazing array of statuary and reconstructed temple structures.

It also displays the journey of the sun, moon and the stars across the sky. One of its ceilings isdecorated with a fascinating plaster cast of the signs of the zodiac. Dendarah Temple has the only relief, which represented Queen Cleopatra and her son Caesarian.

After this unforgettable journey back in time, you will be taken back to your hotel for a relaxing evening.
