This morning, join your private English-speaking guide for a visit to the remarkable Hassan II mosque, one of only two mosques in Morocco open to non-Muslims. Travel overland to the northern city of Meknes, enclosed by 25 km long walls, the city is known for its remnants of its imperial past.

Visit in the medina - madrasas, fondouks, palaces, residences, mosques, and fountains - date from this period. Although the political capital of Morocco transferred to Rabat in 1912, Fes has retained its status as the country's cultural and spiritual center.

Artisan workshops in the medina are as active today as 100 years ago and actively contribute to the city's economy. Trades such as metal and leatherworking, ceramics, silk, tapestries, and sculpting are practiced in these workshops. The original ramparts still protect the ancient city with its 9000 passageways and narrow streets.

Marrakech

City Tour

Join your private English-speaking guide, as together you explore vibrant Marrakech. Founded nearly 1000 years ago, Marrakech is an exotic kaleidoscope of sights and sounds that blends the old with the new. In the older district, visit several historic locations, including the Medina, Djemaa el-Fna, The Koutoubia Mosque, El Bahia Palace, the Medrasa Ben Youssef, and the Souks that offer an array of merchandise, and insight into a way of life unchanged for centuries.

The new town Gueliz, built by the French in the 1930s, is a contrast to the Medina with broad avenues, modern shops, and cafes. The most visited site in Gueliz is the Jardin Marjorelle, a two and half acre botanical garden created by Yves St Laurent.

Built-in the 17th century by the Portuguese, today, Essaouira is a fortified, laid-back coastal town on the Atlantic Ocean. The white-painted buildings of the medina starkly contrast the fishing port. Compared to Fes and Marrakech, the souks of Essaouira are small and easy to navigate. Essaouira is a haven for artisans where handmade works of art are abundant. Fresh fish is readily available at the fishing port, and lunch there is highly recommended, as the day's catch is prepared right in front of you. The beach offers several fun activities, including windsurfing, kitesurfing, camel or horse riding, and quad ATV excursions.
