Paro

Welcome to Paro! After an awe-inspiring flight that crosses the Himalayan Mountains, offering spectacular views of the towering Himalayan peaks, you will arrive in Paro. At the airport, one of our local Travelous, English-speaking representatives will be holding a sign with your name printed on it. Your representative will take you to your hotel in Paro and provide assistance with check-in. (Note: Tourist Visa included)

Paro is a historic town with many sacred sites and historical buildings scattered through the area. The Paro Valley is wide and luxuriantly green, perfect for nature lovers or seekers of tranquility and peace. The town, which lies on the banks of the turquoise waters that are known as the Paro Chhu River, offers iple views of ice-capped mountain peaks. Spend your afternoon strolling through the charming town and enjoying the endless views of the Himalayans from every corner. Stop by the bakery and savor a smooth cheesecake or enjoy a warm bowl of traditional noodle soup in one of the countless restaurants.

Thimphu - Paro

Embark on a 2 hour journey from Paro to the National capital of Bhutan -Thimphu.It is a beautiful drive through the Himalayan terrain along the Paro river

After checking into your hotel, you will embark on a tour of the area, the first visit being the Ta Dzong, once a fortified lookout tower that is now the National Museum. The museum has a wide assortment of ancient paintings, armors, philatelic displays and "fields of Buddhas", which Buddhists often visualize while meditating. You will then hike down the trail to visit the Rinpung Dzong meaning "fortress of the heap of jewels". It has a long and fascinating history. Along the wooden galleries lining the courtyard of the Rinpung Dzong are fine wall paintings illustrating Buddhist lore.

Once you've had lunch, you will visit Kichu Lhakhang, the oldest and most sacred temple in the country. From there you will be taken to the ruin Drugyal Dzong (Bhutan Victory Fort), which was built in 1646 to commemorate Bhutan's victory over Tibetan invaders during the 1600s.

Thimphu

Taj Tashi Hotel - Luxury Room

Your day begins with visits to the Memorial Chorten (built in memory of the third King of Bhutan who reigned from 1952-1972), the fascinating Nunnery temple, the National Institute of Traditional Medicine, the Folk Heritage Museum and the School of Arts and Crafts (also known as the painting school).

After delving into a mouthwatering lunch, you will visit a traditional paper factory where you will dive into the art of papermaking. Then head up to the Kuenselphodrang (giant Buddha statute) overlooking Thimphu valley. This 169 foot statue is reputed to be the largest bronze Buddha statue in the world. You will then visit the majestic Tashichhodzong, the seat of the national government.

Day 4
Punakha

Today you visit the Punakha Dzong, which you will find majestically standing on an island between the confluence of the Pho Chhu and Mo Chhu rivers. The city's dzong is one of the most photographed of all Bhutan's ancient fortresses, and you will find pictures of it hanging in hotels and restaurants throughout the country. The dzong is joined to the mainland by an arched wooden bridge, and contains many precious relics from the days when successive kings reigned the kingdom from this valley. The dzong serves as the winter home of the monastic body.

After breakfast, embark on a scenic journey to Punakha, with a stop for tea at Dochu La Pass (3,100 meters), where on a clear day, you can get spectacular views of the Himalayas. From the pass, continue downhill through the dense, lush forests of rhododendron, fir and hemlock. You will arrive at Punakha, the old capital of Bhutan, after traversing through rice fields and along the banks of Punakha River.

Bumthang

After breakfast you will drive to Bumthang, the cultural heartland of the country.

The route is along a spectacular winding road, crossing the 3,300-meter-high Pele La pass, where you will see yaks grazing in grassy pastures. Stop in Trongsa in time for a delicious lunch.

After lunch you'll visit Trongsa Dzong, a large fortress and the masterpiece of Bhutanese architecture. Then you'll proceed to Bumthang, making your way through lush valleys and hilly forests. Along the way you will stop at a yathra (textile weaving) factory, where the yathras are designed with patterns unique to Bumthang, Watch the weavers at their looms and try to imitate their techniques!

Day 6
Bumthang

Get ready for a full day of fun festival dances and celebrations! The festival is in honor of the Guru Rinpoche who came to Bhutan in 746 AD and introduced Buddhism in the nation. It is believed that the mask dances blesses onlookers, cleanses sins, and bring good fortune. People of all ages and origins dress up in their most fancy clothing and come to witness and dance in the festival.

You will be completely fascinated by this colorful festival of dance and song. The performance of various spiritual dances that are characterized by the deep and hair-raising storylines at their core will leave you spellbound. The dances give way into the depth of Bhutanese culture and history; their purpose is to depict that good always has victory over evil.

Mingle with the people, taste the delicious local cuisine and dance the evening away as the sun sets over the festivities.

Day 7
Bumthang

Today's sightseeing in Bumthang includes visiting Jakar Dzong, the administrative center of the valley, and Jambey Lhakhang, one of the oldest monasteries in Bhutan which dates all the way back to the introduction of Buddhism in Bhutan (the 7th century). The next stop is Kurje Lhakhang, considered to be one of the most sacred places in the area. It is believed that Guru Rinpoche - the founder of Tibetan Buddhism - left his body imprint on the cave when he was meditating. You can also take in the peace and meditate for some time here as well.

After lunch, you will also have a chance to tour Tamshing Lhakhang, a treasure house of interesting religious Buddhist paintings and wall art.

Spend the evening strolling through Bumthang, enjoying its local market or simple basking in the peace of this spiritually rooted area.

Day 8
Wangdue Phodrang

You'll begin the day at the Bumthang market, and then drive to Wangdue. Stop at the intriguing Chendebji Chorten for a delicious lunch. Chendebji Chorten was built in 18th century by a lama named Shida in a Nepalese style with eyes painted at four cardinal points.

After a long exhilarating drive across two spectacular high passes, you will arrive Wangdue. The nearby villages of Wangdue are known for their slate and stone carvings.

Paro

Today you will drive back to Paro via Dochula Pass. On the way, you will stop at Metshina Village and hike through rice paddies up to Chimi Lhakhang Temple. This temple is dedicated to the great Yogi in the 14th century known as Drukpa Kuenley, or the "Divine Madman," who is believed to bless women who seek fertility. You will stop in Thimphu for lunch. After lunch, you will continue drive to Paro.

Spend the evening in Paro, we recommend that you take advantage of the amazing hiking trails all around!

Paro

Today you will hike to Taktsang or the "Tiger's Nest" Monastery perched precariously on the cliff 900m above Paro valley.

After breakfast, you will start you trek towards the most famous monastery in Bhutan. Guru Rimpoche, the 8th century spiritual master, is said to have flown on the back of a tigress to meditate in a cave where Taktsang Monastery now stands. Lunch will be served in the Cafeteria Restaurant, located about halfway up the mountain. Explore the monastery, and if you wish, you can sit for a short meditation before you hike down to the valley floor.

Enjoy an evening at leisure to explore Paro or to enjoy the views and facilities at your hotel.

  • items of a personal nature such as incidentals, excess baggage charges
  • airport taxes/entrance fees, port charges, foreign government departure taxes
  • Visas (unless otherwise indicated), Inspection, Customs, Immigration and Naturalization fees Additional fuel surcharges on cruises
  • Travel Insurance including Medical, Lost Baggage and Trip cancellation
  • Optional activities (golf, watersports, etc.)
  • any other activities or items not explicitly advertised as included in the price of a Tour

 

Reservations/Booking and Deposits:  To book a Tour, each Traveler (or leader of a Group of Travelers) must submit:

 

A.     A completed booking form signed electronically by the main Traveler. By submitting the booking form on the payments page, the traveler accepts our full Terms and Conditions.  

B.     A deposit of 30% of the Tour price (minimum $250 per person), is due immediately upon booking.

C.     The full balance of the trip cost is due ninety days (90) before the trip departure date.

D.      If you book your trip with us ninety days (90 days) or less before the departure date, the full cost of the trip is due at that time.

E.      In the instance payment is made by certified check or wire transfer, reservations will only commence once the check is cleared.

F.      Availability of Services and Accommodations cannot be guaranteed until a Tour is booked.  We will exercise our best efforts to book the Services and Accommodations described in the Tour Itinerary, however, in busy seasons and with client bookings made within 90 days of Tour date, we may be forced to offer substitutes.  In this instance we will notify you as soon as possible and try to substitute comparable Services and Accommodations based on availability.

G.     Ticketing & credit card processing for international transport and other select domestic airfare pertaining to a specific country is done by a 3rd party and not included in your total land package price unless otherwise stated.

H.     Cancellations of confirmed bookings 90 days or more prior to departure will receive full refund minus a $250 (per person) administrative fee and any non-refundable paid fees (e.g. non-refundable airfare, cruise or hotel deposits). 60-89 days will be subject to loss of 30% of program price. 30-59 days will be subject to loss of 50% of program price. 29 days or less will be subject to loss of 100% of program price.

       *NOTE: Certain destinations require a 30% non-refundable deposit at the time of booking and therefore, would supersede our standard cancellation policy prior to 90 days in this instance.
