From Arica travel to Putre for the night, the next day head towards Lauca National Park and the Surire Salt Flat (4,200), which are home to various bird species and South American camelids. Continue to Lake Chungará. located in the altiplano (at 4,517 m), it offers incredible colors and an abundance of fauna and birds, all amid the silence of the Andes mountains. Travel by land to Iquique stopping at the abandoned saltpeter mining town of Humberstone, and the Santa Laura mine both of which offer a look into the area’s mining past before arriving at the coastal city of Iquique which offers lovely beaches and warm climate in addition to the old quarter which displays Iquique’s valuable architecture. Continue to San Pedro de Atacama; the region has the world’s most arid desert here you will find salt flats, lunar terrain, hot springs, geysers in addition to fertile ravines and oases.

Welcome to Chile! Upon arrival at the airport, you will be greeted by our local Travelous, English-speaking representatives who will be holding a sign with your name printed on it. Your representative will accompany you through the Casablanca Valley, known for its vineyards. Stop at the Matetic Vineyards, located in the Rosario Valley, between Casablanca and San Antonio, featuring extraordinary light, ideal climatic and topographic conditions for both red and white wines.

Enjoy a tour of the wine cellar with a view of the organic vineyards, and an explanation of the processes of wine making, bottling and storage. Lunch is at the Restaurant Equilibrio specialized in Chilean cuisine. Savor the freshest Chilean fish and shellfish straight from the coast, a variety of meats and many other dishes, all perfectly paired with Matetic wines. After lunch, continue to Valparaiso located on the Pacific coast.

Day 2
Santiago

Today's activities will showcase Chilean history and tradition. Following breakfast we will depart to Isla Negra, visiting a local winery along the way for some delicious wine tasting. Afterwards we will continue to Isla Negra, a village known locally for its thick vegetation and fragrant pine trees, and where Nobel Poet, Pablo Neruda chose to build one of his iconic homes. The house is now a museum that holds some of his prolific collections of bottles, masks, and figureheads from ships prows and other objects he amassed during his life as a poet and ambassador. The house is notable for the attractive setting and interesting architecture. After visiting the Museum with its eclectic collection we will return to Santiago, making a short stop at the village of Pomaire known for its traditional pottery along the way. Upon arrival in Santiago you will be transferred to your hotel.

Santiago - Putre

Transfer in a private vehicle with English speaking driver from the hotel to the airport.

Upon arrival at the Chacalluta airport, a local guide who will accompany you on a city tour of Arica will greet you.

Located right at the border with Peru and known as "The city of eternal spring," Arica"s privileged climate makes it a perfect year round destination. In the afternoon, visit the beaches of Chinchorro and Lisera, then head to the fisherman"s wharf for some fun adventure. Continue on to the beautiful San Marcos Cathedral and the Casa de la Cultura, both of them designed by Gustav Eiffel. Finally, get an incredible panoramic view of the city at the Morro de Arica.

After the Arica visit, start the trip to Putre, 145 km (85 miles) away in the Andes Mountains. Travel through the desert and fertile valleys with sightings of Geoglyphs, chandelier cactus and ancient Inca forts with wonderful views along the way.

Arica

This morning, you will head into the wilderness to experience the natural wonders of Chile.

Make your way to Lauca National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and protected area where the fragile highland ecosystem gives life to abundant wildlife and flora. Come into intimate contact with majestic vicunas, llamas and alpacas as well as Andean bird varieties in the small lakes where Andean ostriches and sometimes condors can be seen. Visit the village of Parinacota and its 17th century church, now a national monument.

Continue on to Chungara Lake, situated at 4,570 meters above sea level one of the world\u180\'b4s highest lakes, surrounded by volcanoes. Enjoy a box lunch at the shore of this magnificent lake before taking an afternoon soak in the Jurasi hot springs.

In the late afternoon, return to Arica.

Iquique

Today we will journey to the coastal city of Iquique, approximately 300 km (175 miles) south. On the way we will view the geoglyphs of Chiza, Tiviliche, and continue to the National Preserve "Pampa del Tamarugal", a large flat plain located in the heart of the dessert.

Before arriving to Iquique, our first stop will be at the Santa Laura Saltpeter. Built in 1872 by Guillermo Wendel, now a World Heritage Site, The second stop during this journey through time is the abandoned Saltpeter town of Humberstone, also a World Heritage Site, which was created in the middle of nothing for the workers from Santa Laura and their families, fully equipped with a market, main square, theater, hotel, public pool, school rooms, and outdoor spaces for the children.

Atacama

Set off early in the morning for a city tour of Iquique.

Start off with a visit to the Spanish Casino, built in 1904. Arrive at Prat Square, and visit the Municipal Theater, built in 1889, the Spanish Center, Baquedano and Balmaceda streets which reflect the prosperity of the days of the nitrate boom and the Regional Museum with an interesting archeological presentation of the nitrate cycle. Visit the Astoreca Palace that is nowadays used as a cultural center of the Arturo Prat University. You will also visit the Naval Museum, which displays a variety of objects and documents that describe the Naval Combat of Iquique and Punta Gruesa.

Transfer to San Pedro de Atacama, a journey that takes approximately 9 hours. Before arriving to San Pedro, visit the Salt Mountain, Death Valley and Moon Valley to admire the spectacular sunset reflected on this wonderful landscape - nature"s own light show.

Start off your day by visiting the Atacama Salt Flat, which is Chile"s biggest Salt Flat and among one of the largest in the world. Here, you will explore the Laguna Chaxa where three different species of flamingoes live and breed. You will also have the chance to visit the picturesque village of Toconao and its fascinating Bell Tower, built inclassical Atacama style.

After this, head to the village of Socaire and the altiplanic lagoons of Menique and Miscanti, located at 14.850 feet above sea level. This area is a part of the "Reserva National Los Flamencos" (Flamingos National Reserve). The lagoons are surrounded by impressive volcanoes that were formed when the Andes Mountain Range rose from the sea through millions of years of evolution

Atacama

You will have an early morning departure to the Geysers del Tatio. Enjoy a boxed breakfast with a view of the Geysers before a gentle guided walk around the geothermal field. Observe the natural phenomenon of the steam columns, which are viewed at their best when the sun rises over the Andes Mountains. Return to San Pedro after getting the most spectacular views of the Torcopuri y Sairecabur volcanoes.

Before arriving in San Pedro, take a relaxing stop at an amazing natural swimming pool known as Puritama Bath, a lush verdant location in an oasis in the desert.

Spend the afternoon visiting San Pedro at leisure.

Transfer in shared vehicle with English speaking driver from San Pedro de Atacama to Calama Airport.

Explore Santiago like a native. Your authentic Santiago tour will begin with a subway ride to the University of Chile station in the center of the city. Continue to the beautiful Plaza de Armas in the heart of the city, adorned with coconut palms and featuring stunning neoclassical and colonial architecture. Grab lunch at the bustling Farmers Market of Vega Central. Afterwards, visit the bohemian Bellavista neighborhood and taste a classic Chilean drink before heading up San Cristobal Hill for a panoramic view.

Reservations/Booking and Deposits:  To book a Tour, each Traveler (or leader of a Group of Travelers) must submit:

 

A.     A completed booking form signed electronically by the main Traveler. By submitting the booking form on the payments page, the traveler accepts our full Terms and Conditions.  

B.     A deposit of 30% of the Tour price (minimum $250 per person), is due immediately upon booking.

C.     The full balance of the trip cost is due ninety days (90) before the trip departure date.

D.      If you book your trip with us ninety days (90 days) or less before the departure date, the full cost of the trip is due at that time.

E.      In the instance payment is made by certified check or wire transfer, reservations will only commence once the check is cleared.

F.      Availability of Services and Accommodations cannot be guaranteed until a Tour is booked.  We will exercise our best efforts to book the Services and Accommodations described in the Tour Itinerary, however, in busy seasons and with client bookings made within 90 days of Tour date, we may be forced to offer substitutes.  In this instance we will notify you as soon as possible and try to substitute comparable Services and Accommodations based on availability.

G.     Ticketing & credit card processing for international transport and other select domestic airfare pertaining to a specific country is done by a 3rd party and not included in your total land package price unless otherwise stated.

H.     Cancellations of confirmed bookings 90 days or more prior to departure will receive full refund minus a $250 (per person) administrative fee and any non-refundable paid fees (e.g. non-refundable airfare, cruise or hotel deposits). 60-89 days will be subject to loss of 30% of program price. 30-59 days will be subject to loss of 50% of program price. 29 days or less will be subject to loss of 100% of program price.

       *NOTE: Certain destinations require a 30% non-refundable deposit at the time of booking and therefore, would supersede our standard cancellation policy prior to 90 days in this instance.
