Welcome to Lima International Airport. Once you have cleared customs, a Travelous representative awaits your arrival holding a sign with your name printed on it. They will assist you with check in to your airport hotel for overnight stay.

If you wish, get up at dawn to witness a mignificent sunrise. Whenever you do wake, enjoy a healthy breakfast in bed or on the terrace. In the morning, your guides will take you by car and boat to visit the famed Uros floating islands, near the Titicaca National Reserve. Here you will meet one of the traditional families that inhabit these unique islands. The Uro-Aymara people are a proud culture, where the men skillfully traverse the lake with rafts made from reeds and te women are expert weavers.

Calling themselves kot-suna or "people of the lake", the Uro-Aymara were once persecuted by other groups and forced to relocate to Lake Titicaca, where they found refuge by creating the islands out of totora reeds. Considering themselves guardians of Titicaca, the Uro-Amara claim to have black blood that supposedly maks them impervious to the cold.

Explore Quechua beliefs and culture through the rich weaving tradition on island of Taquile. Declared a part of UNESCO'S Masterpieces of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Huanity, Taquile's vivid textiles convey complex messages aout the wearer's social status and life. As the island enjoys a privileged micro-climate, you will likely see men waving wonderful pieces outdoors.

Enjoy a picnic against the stunning backdrop of Titicaca's deep blue skies, the lake's sapphire waters o the horizon of Bolivia's Cordillera Real or Royal Mountain Range.

Return to the hotel around 17:30 and enjoy cocktails from 18:30 and an a la carte dinner around 19:30pm.

Wake at dawn and witness a magnificent sunrise or rise whenever best suits you to a healthy breakfast of fresh fruits and local cereals in bed or on the terrace.

The Aymara Route is worth a full day's exploration, with its landscapes, wildlife, vilages and privileged views of the Chucuito peninsula and community of Acora.

Through the oral traditions that your guide will share with you, you will travel back to pre-Inca times and learn about Titicaca's central role in the Andean way of life and cosmovision, and the itimate relationship between man and nature here that survives to this day.

By car, bicycle or foot, set your own pace through curving country paths as they cross open farmland. From natural lookouts, drink in inspiring views of Lake Titicaca. Keep an eye out for the native birds, archaeological remains and locals going about their daily chores. Lunch will be a picnic while enjoying open vistas of Lake Titicaca.

You return to the hotel for dinner at 19:30.

Enjoy a scenic full day journey from Puno to Cusco (12,421ft) with guided visits of several cultural gems en route.

Visit Alcra Pukara Museum located 140 miles north of Puno, in a town inhabited by native people who are highly involved in the production of ceramic crafts. The museum showcases a series of intriguing objects that have been found in the exploration of this center. Continue along to La Raya (14,000ft) the midpoint between Puno and Cusco. On this mountain pass, marvel at the vastness of the snowy landscapes and the distinctiveness of local fauna (llamas, alpacas and vicuna).

Continue to Raqchi, the archaeological site includes a temple built by the Incas to worship the god Wiracocha. This magnificent edifice is made of stone and clay is and dates back to 200 BCE. Explore the crown jewel of the Andahuaylillas District, San Pedro Apostol Church, a beautiful building displaying Baroque and Mestizo architecture, an architectural style that originated in Cusco. This church is known as the " Sistine Chapel of the Americas" because of its rich decoration and baroque frescoes.

In the early afternoon, enjoy a private city tour of Cusco city and its surrounding ruins. This captivating city tour begins with a visit to Cusco's Main Square, known in Inca times as "Huyacaypata" or "The Warrior's Square." This was the location of key political and cultural events in Cusco's history. The next stop is the great Cathedral, which was built between 1560 and 1664 with large stones of red granite taken from the Inca Fortress of Sacsayhuaman. Next, tour the gold-plated Korikancha Temple, the most important temple dedicated to sun worship. Afterwards, continue to the ruins above Cusco: Kenko, Pucapucara, Tambomachay and the Sacsayhuaman Fortress, an imposing example of Inca military architecture.

Bask in the glory of the Sacred Valley through a full-day tour of its alluring attractions.

Visit Pisac Ruins, set high above the valley (9,700ft), by patterned fields and rimmed with terraces, the stone work and panoramas from Pisac ruins are quite striking. Continue to Maras Salt Terraces glistening salt mines where local communities extract salt from these mines that have been in use since pre-Columbian times. Visit the archaeological site of Moray. Evidence suggests that Moray was an important center of Inca agricultural research on crops, which was carried out on different sized plots located at various altitudes (some of which were at more than 100 m. underground). The Andean terraces, built on retaining walls filled with fertile soil and watered via a complex irrigation system, offer more than 250 different types of vegetables and cereals, such as corn, quinoa and kiwicha.

In the afternoon, you will visit the Ollantaytambo Ruins, (9,160ft), named in honor of Chief Ollanta, who was famous for courting an Inca Princess daughter of Pachacutec. This ancient fortress contains the well-preserved area known as Hanan Hucaypata, which lies north of the main square and contains 15 houses that were built with elegantly crafted stone walks.

You will also have the opportunity to visit Chinchero, a vibrant community nestled in the mountains. Its main attraction, however, is its Sunday Market, which was originally dedicated to the barter of produce by the people of the valley, today it is a hub of pulsating activity of color and movement with its range of produce, handicrafts and textiles made in pre-Columbian style.

Transfer to Ollanta Station from the Sacred Valley with private vehicle and English speaking assistance.

Travel to Aguas Calientes on board the Vistadome Valley Train, accompanied by your private guide. Upon arrival, board the 30-minutes shuttle bus to the Machu Picchu citadel.

Enjoy a private exploration of Machu Picchu, a citadel considered to be one of the most extraordinary examples of landscape architecture in the world, re-discovered in 1911 by the explorer Hiram Bingham. Located in an enclave on the saddle of a mountain, overlooking the deep canyon of the Urubamba River, in an area of lush tropical forest, it served as a place of worship, a site for star-gazing and a private hacienda of the family of the Inca Pachacutec. It consists of two main areas: one agricultural and the other urban, which is noted for its sacred zone with its temples, squares and royal tombs.

After the tour, you will take the bus to Aguas Calientes town, escorted by your private guide.

Enjoy a leisurely morning to explore Machu Picchu at your own pace. Travelous encourages you to return to Machu Picchu for a magical morning sunrise and the chance to climb Huayna Picchu.

The Machu Picchu ruins are limited to only 2,500 visitors per day between 6am and 2pm, while the Huayna Picchu hike is limited to 400 people per day. The 400 visitors are divided into two groups that depart at different times in the morning. The first group departs between 7-8am, while the second group departs between 10-11am. It is necessary to book the Huayna Picchu hike well in advance.

Board the Vistadome train as you journey to Poroy station located 20 minutes from Cusco.

Welcome to Puerto Maldonado. Upon arrival in Puerto Maldonado you will be greeted by an Inkaterra representatives, who will take you by land to the Inkaterra Butterfly House near the airport for your check-in. After a short tour you will be accompanied to the boarding wharf where your experience of the enchanting rainforest will begin. Take a 45-minute boat ride along the Madre de Dios River to arrive at the beautiful Inkaterra Reserva Amazonica Lodge. After a briefing session, settle into your beautiful cabana and enjoy your lunch in the dining room. Enjoy a siesta, share a refreshing tea-time and get ready for the afternoon excursion. Gather with your Inkaterra Interpreter and choose from the 14 different excursions available at the Inkaterra lodge. Excursions range between easy to difficult and are guided by trained professional guides who are fluent in English and have extensive knowledge in the jungle environment.

Puerto Maldonado - Lima

At the appropriate time return to Puerto Maldonado in the same manner in which you arrived. Travel down the Madre de Dios River on your boat followed by shuttle transfer to the Airport.

A private guide will greet you at Lima airport and your final tour of Lima will begin upon arrival.

The guide will accompany you on a visit to the Larco Herrera Museum. The Museum showcases remarkable chronological galleries that provide an excellent overview of 3000 years of development of Peruvian pre-Columbian history. Located in a unique vice-royal mansion of the 18th century, built over a 7th century pre-Columbian pyramid, it is surrounded by beautiful gardens. The Museum features the finest gold and silver collection from Ancient Peru and the famous erotic archaeological collection. Larco is one of the few museums in the world where visitors may enter the storage area with its 45.000 classified archaeological objects. Its masterpieces are considered worldwide icons of Pre-Columbian art.

Reservations/Booking and Deposits:  To book a Tour, each Traveler (or leader of a Group of Travelers) must submit:

 

A.     A completed booking form signed electronically by the main Traveler. By submitting the booking form on the payments page, the traveler accepts our full Terms and Conditions.  

B.     A deposit of 30% of the Tour price (minimum $250 per person), is due immediately upon booking.

C.     The full balance of the trip cost is due ninety days (90) before the trip departure date.

D.      If you book your trip with us ninety days (90 days) or less before the departure date, the full cost of the trip is due at that time.

E.      In the instance payment is made by certified check or wire transfer, reservations will only commence once the check is cleared.

F.      Availability of Services and Accommodations cannot be guaranteed until a Tour is booked.  We will exercise our best efforts to book the Services and Accommodations described in the Tour Itinerary, however, in busy seasons and with client bookings made within 90 days of Tour date, we may be forced to offer substitutes.  In this instance we will notify you as soon as possible and try to substitute comparable Services and Accommodations based on availability.

G.     Ticketing & credit card processing for international transport and other select domestic airfare pertaining to a specific country is done by a 3rd party and not included in your total land package price unless otherwise stated.

H.     Cancellations of confirmed bookings 90 days or more prior to departure will receive full refund minus a $250 (per person) administrative fee and any non-refundable paid fees (e.g. non-refundable airfare, cruise or hotel deposits). 60-89 days will be subject to loss of 30% of program price. 30-59 days will be subject to loss of 50% of program price. 29 days or less will be subject to loss of 100% of program price.

       *NOTE: Certain destinations require a 30% non-refundable deposit at the time of booking and therefore, would supersede our standard cancellation policy prior to 90 days in this instance.
