A short drive to the city side of the plateau finds you standing at the feet of the Sphinx, the enigmatic symbol of Egypt for thousands of years.

Head to the Mena House for a delicious lunch and then you're off again to Saqqara, the vast, ancient burial ground, which served as the necropolis for the Ancient Egyptian capital, Memphis. Your guide will provide a brief history of the famous step Pyramid of Zoser and you will have free time to explore the area. Your final stop is Memphis, the ancient capital of Egypt. Day 3
Alexandria

Transfer in private vehicle with full assistance from your hotel in Cairo to Alexandria.

Your visit of this beautiful city, originally built by Alexander the Great, starts with a trip to the New Alexandria Library (Bibliotheca Alexandrina), inaugurated on October 16, 2002. The library has shelf space for eight million books, with the main reading room on eleven levels. You will then go deep into the catacombs (Kom el Shoqafa), where the early Christians were buried. Next, you will visit the fascinating Roman Amphitheatre, which every town in the ancient Roman Empire had. Then off to the Alexandria National Museum, which was built in a former palace and now houses almost 2000 artifacts that tell the story of the city. After a delicious lunch, you go on to your final destination, the Citadel of Qaitbay. In 1480, the Mameluke Sultan, Al-Ashraf Qaitbay, fortified the site, which held the ruins of the Alexandria Lighthouse. Day 4
Siwa Oasis

After an early breakfast, you will be transferred to Siwa by private, air-conditioned vehicle. The stunning desert city of Siwa is at a distance of about 300 miles from Alexandria. On your way there, you will stop in the last city on the north coast, Marsa Matrouh, for a delicious seafood meal.

Siwa, once the most mysterious of all Egypt's oases, is also the most fascinating. Its history has not only been shaped by all major civilizations, but also by the contrast of the surrounding desert with the lush soil of the oasis setting. The modern town of Siwa is set among thick palm groves, walled gardens and olive orchards, with numerous freshwater springs and salt lakes within. Siwa also clusters beneath the impressive remains of the ancient fortress town of Shali.

The Siwan people have their own culture and customs and, as well as speaking Arabic, they speak their own Berber (Amazigh) language. Women still wear traditional costumes and skilled silver jewelers make Siwa one of the best places to buy traditional local handicrafts.

Day 5
Siwa Oasis

The temple, which is built on a hill of Aghurmi two miles away from the town of Siwa, is an absolutely spectacular site! Alexander the Great visited the oracle after his conquest of the region for confirmation that he too had been imparted divine powers.

Your next stop is the enchanting Cleopatra Springs,an antique natural spring, supposedly used by Cleopatra for bathing. Your final stop is at Gebel al Mawta (the Mountain of the Dead), a Roman-era necropolis featuring dozens of rock-cut tombs.

Day 6
Bahariya Oasis

After breakfast, you will depart for the incredible Bahariya Oasis.

This small desert oasis houses the ruins of a temple to Alexander the Great, located in Qasr el-Miqisba. It is believed by some Egyptologists that the Greek conqueror passed through Bahariya while returning from the oracle of Ammon at Siwa Oasis. Excavations of the Greco-Roman necropolis found in 1995 and known as the Valley of the Golden Mummies began in 1999. Approximately thirty-four tombs have been excavated from this area. It is also a close drive to the White Desert where the most dramatic rock formations can be found.

Enjoy a relaxing evening and a sunset view of the salt lake island in this quiet oasis.

Day 7
Bahariya Oasis

After breakfast, you will depart to the White Desert, an incredible natural site that begins to resemble an Arctic landscape at dusk. The desert centerpiece is its rock colored from snow-white to cream color. It has massive chalk rock formations that are utterly fascinating. These formations have been as a result of sandstorms and have the most peculiar shapes, bringing back memories of Stonehenge.

You will then continue on to the "Old Desert," named by the Bedouins. After a three- hour walk, you will have a packed lunch before making your way towards the famous acacia tree in the heart of the desert. You will continue on to the Ain Khadra Spring, an old roman spring where you can take a refreshing swim. You will spend some time here before going back to the White Desert where you will camp overnight.

The city has several large bazaars, mosques, baths and a much-frequented weekly market. The canal called Bahr Yussef runs through the city, its banks lined with houses. There are two bridges over the river: one of three arches, which carries the main street and bazaar, and one of two arches, over which is built the Qaitbay mosque. Mounds north of the city mark the site of Arsinoe, known to the ancient Greeks as Crocodilopolis. In ancient times, the sacred crocodile kept in Lake Moeris was worshipped.
