Day 2
London

Your full day private guided tour begins with London"s West-End, Royal Parks and exclusive boroughs before the "Changing of the Guard" at Buckingham Palace. Enjoy all the classic sights, the Houses of Parliament, Big Ben, Downing Street, Trafalgar Square, Piccadilly and Covent Garden. There is much debate on where Shakespeare drank but one thing is for certain, he drank beer! There will be plenty of free time for lunch (and a beer) in one of the many historical pubs in London. The afternoon continues into the City of London and its unique history with a visit to the Tower of London & the Crown Jewels. The Tower would have been an equally imposing site in Shakespeare"s day; a place of punishment and torture, and certainly a big influence on him as a writer. Return via the south bank, crossing the River Thames once again before ending at your hotel.

Day 3
London

Meet your guide after breakfast (08.30 hrs) and transfer by the underground using your Oystercard to St Pauls Cathedral, in the heart of London. Enjoy a private tour of the cathedral, one of Sir Christopher Wren"s masterpieces and a site dating back to Roman times. Those feeling fit climb the 376 steps to the Stone Gallery are treated to a breathtaking view of the city.

Walk across the River Thames via the Millennium Bridge, a pedestrian bridge linking the City of London to the borough of Southwark, the area frequented by Shakespeare and his theatre company 400 years ago. After pointing out key landmarks on the skyline, your guide will leave you as you enter the Globe. This is a wonderful recreation of the open-air theatre just a few hundred yards from its original site. This guided tour will bring to life the experience of theatre in the 1500's and is followed by a visit to the Globe Exhibition (aprox 45 minutes).

Return to the 21st century with a national pastime - Afternoon Tea! Your Shakespeare Globe experience brings you to the connecting Swan Restaurant, with its unbeatable views of the river and St Pauls Cathedral. Modern British food served in elegant yet relaxed surroundings.

The rest of your afternoon is at leisure so remember to make use of your London Oystercard for unlimited London travel. The Tate Modern is right next door or Borough Market is just a short walk along the river.

Later this evening, return for an open-air performance at the Globe, just as it would have been at the time of Shakespeare. "To stand or not to stand that is the question". Standing in the "yard" in the open as the commoners would have done, or take a more civilized seat on the benches undercover as the gentry would.

Use your Oystercard to return to your hotel at your leisure after the performance.

Day 4
Stratford Upon Avon

After breakfast, depart London and head into the English countryside. Your first stop is Windsor, this historic riverside town is home to Windsor Castle and one of the most prestigious private schools in the country, Eton College. The Castle was used extensively by Elizabeth I, the first of two monarchs to reign during Shakespeare's life and still a Royal Residence to this day.

Head on to the city of Oxford, home to the 38 colleges that make up Oxford University. Here you will explore the city on foot, including access to one of the colleges and learn the history of this unique "student" city as well as having time for lunch.

A short drive from Oxford will find you in the wonderfully quaint village of Woodstock and a national treasure: Blenheim Palace. Currently the home to the 12th Duke of Marlborough and also the birthplace of Sir Winston Churchill, you will be able to experience this magnificent stately home before continuing to your overnight location: Stratford Upon Avon.

Day 6
Stratford Upon Avon

"A horse! A horse! My kingdom for a horse!". Those immortal words penned by Shakespeare in his epic masterpiece "Richard III" will be the phrase of the day as you re-trace the last stages of the Battle of Bosworth, the final deciding battle in the bloody War of the Roses. The houses of York & Lancaster fought for several years plunging the country into civil war culminating in some of the largest losses of life in the history of the country. The Battle of Bosworth saw Richard III defeated by Henry Tudor who went on to rule as Henry VII.

Visit the exhibition center before embarking on a private Battlefield walk to set the scene and bring to life the events that ultimately brought the Tudors to the throne. The visit concludes with a live Falconry display - a favourite pastime of the Royalty of the day. That afternoon you continue to Leicester where you will visit the Richard III Visitor Centre and where his body was discovered. Learn about this unique discovery and visit the Cathedral along with his present day Tomb.

Enjoy an evening theatrical performance with the Royal Shakespeare Company. While attending a play is subject to availability and travel dates, your itinerary includes two tickets to what would be currently in production.
