Day 1
London - Cambridge

Welcome to London. A Travelous representative awaits your arrival holding a sign with your name printed on it. Transfer in private vehicle with your local driver guide who will escort you to your touring vehicle. You will be driven a short distance to the nearby royal town of Windsor where you can relax over tea or coffee and start to unwind after your flight.

In the afternoon, enjoy a tour of this wonderful town including a visit to Windsor Castle - an official residence of Her Majesty The Queen. Home to countless members of royalty over the years, Windsor Castle remains an integral part of today's monarchy.

Continue on towards Cambridge where you will spend the next two nights. On-route, and probably in time for lunch, stop at St Albans, where you will have time to explore this medieval town. It was in that very centre the Wars of the Roses started with the first battle that saw a week and feeble King Henry VI captured by the army of Richard, Duke of York. 6 years later it was the scene of another battle of reversed fortune that saw the Lancastrian forces defeat the House of York who had abandoned the King tied up under a tree!

A little further along on your route, stop at the fabulous Hatfield House, home to the 7th Marquess and Marchioness of Salisbury. The "Old Palace" which still stands today was where King Henry VIII's children, Edward, Elizabeth & Mary grew up. It is most associated with Elizabeth and it was while she was living here that she learned of her accession to the throne.

Arrive into Cambridge early evening to check in to your hotel, your guide will have plenty of recommendations for an early dinner before you retire for the night.

Day 2
Cambridge

Despite the obvious attractions of Cambridge with its glorious architecture & university dominating the entire city, you will head out of town for a day covering several ages of English & British Royalty. Your first stop is the beautiful town of Bury St Edmunds. The town"s name dates back to medieval times when a young Edmund was crowned King of East Anglia, long before England was united in an age of regional kingdoms.

Continue your drive through Thetford Forest to a rather more current location and a highlight of your trip, the much loved country estate of Her Majesty The Queen. Sandringham, the private home of four generations of monarchs and the most famous stately home in Norfolk. You will have time to explore the house and gardens at your leisure including the Church of St Mary Magdalene, a place of worship for many members of the Royal Family. Be sure to try some of their pressed apple juice from the orchards planted by King George VI!

In the afternoon, you will stop and visit at the historical city of Ely & the magnificent Ely Cathedral.

Day 3
Cambridge - London

This morning, enjoy a guided walking tour of the City of Cambridge discovering the various colleges that make up the university. No trip to Cambridge would be complete without a trip on the River Cam where you"ll take a private chauffeured punt trip along the College Backs, taking in the sights of Kings College, the Wren Library and the Bridge of Sighs.

After lunch, depart Cambridge for London where your driver guide will provide a quick panoramic tour to get your bearings of the capital, your home for the next four nights.

Day 4
London

After breakfast, meet your local Blue Badge London guide for a full day walking tour. Fear not, as you have your own Visitor Oystercard giving you unlimited travel on the underground & busses for the day so you can get around quickly and with more flexibility, feeling like a real Londoner by the end of it!

Entrances are included for two iconic sites, the HM Tower of London and Westminster Abbey. The Tower of London dominates the entrance to the City of London. It has survived centuries of turmoil, bloody battles, executions and is a fascinating insight to British history. It is also home to the famous Beefeater Guards & the Crown Jewels. Next is Westminster Abbey, the coronation place of so many Kings and Queens, including the current monarch Queen Elizabeth II, crowned there in June 1953. Your guide will escort you as you travel through London pointing out all the major sites along the way including the Changing of the Guard at Buckingham Palace should it take place that day.

Day 5
London

Today is your self guided day of discovery to take things at your own pace. With your unlimited travel Oystercard and entrance included at Kensington Palace, explore the former home of Diana, Princess of Wales; now the home of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, or more popularly known as Kate and William. May we also suggest stopping by the National Gallery (entrance included)? Home to the works of Monet, Van Gogh, Holbein, Rembrandt, Michelangelo and many more. (If you arrive when they open at 10.00 hrs you"ll have the place to yourself!) You should also take a stroll along nearby Piccadilly to Fortnum & Mason who have been supplying the Royal Family with goods from their store for years. They have a great tea section with some special edition tea caddies including the "Queen's Blend" recently created to celebrate Queen Elizabeth"s achievement for being the longest reigning British Monarch.

This evening, enjoy a time honored classic of London by night and proceed to the Theatre. Which theatre? "Her Majesty"s Theatre" of course! Currently performing the hit show "Phantom of the Opera"

Day 6
London

Depart London after breakfast, heading southwest to the town of Salisbury and Salisbury Cathedral. Not only does the cathedral boast Britain's tallest spire but it also houses the best preserved copy of Magna Carta (the Royal Charter). Only four remaining in existence, the Magna Carta is probably the most important piece of legislation the country has ever seen, ending the unquestioned rule & decision of the King. It paved the way for trial by jury, civil rights and most importantly, brought the Kings & Queens of England under the jurisdiction of the law. After touring the cathedral, head to another historically important location, Winchester. Winchester was originally the capital of the Kingdom of Wessex of which King Alfred (Alfred the Great) was the most well-known ruler. He successfully led campaigns against the invading Danes, achieved years of peace, improved laws and began the translation of Latin documents to Anglo-Saxon. He was the only English monarch to be known as "the Great".

In the afternoon, make your way back towards London, stopping at another iconic site along the way, Hampton Court Palace. There is no doubting that it is one of the most architecturally splendid of all the Royal Palaces and is best known for its most famous residents, King Henry VIII and all 6 of his wives!

Day 7
London

A real treat is in store for your final full day in the UK with a visit to three quintessentially British sites. Your first stop is widely regarded as the "loveliest castle in the world". Judge for yourself as you enjoy a tour of Leeds Castle, the residence of Catherine of Aragon, King Henry VIII's first wife.

Your next stop will be a taste of just how some gardens have been developed over the years and Sissinghurst Castle & Gardens is a classic treasure.

Your final stop is the home of possibly the most well-known of King Henry VIII's wives, Anne Boleyn. Their courting was one of the most defining of its kind, resulting in the creation of the Church of England with him as the head and a split from Rome in order to achieve a divorce from his first wife. This 13th Century double-moated castle is one of the finest and most romantic in the country, a fitting tribute to their doomed affair.
