Welcome to Lima International Airport. Upon arrival at the airport, you will be greeted by your local Travelous representative who be holding a sign with your name printed on it. Transfer in private vehicle with English speaking driver from the Airport to your hotel for overnight.

Lima

Enjoy a tour of colonial and modern Lima as you visit diverse touristic sites. Your day begins with a visit to Main Square where the Government Palace is located. After exploring this area, an unforgettable visit to Lima's splendid Colonial Cathedral will follow. The Cathedral contains 14 stunning side chapels as well as the tomb of Francisco Pizarro, the Spanish conquistador of Peru. The tour continues with a visit to San Francisco Church and Monastery which display the finest examples of high Spanish Baroque dating back to 1629. The complex was built over underground catacombs, which were used as cemeteries during colonial times.

A visit to the residential areas of San Isidro, with attractive city parks such as El Olivar, as well as a visit to Miraflores, a modern district with lush gardens, bustling avenues, chic cafes and restaurants will culminate the tour. Return transfer back to hotel provided.

Day 3
Lima - Sacred Valley

Transfer in private vehicle with English speaking escort to Lima airport.

Upon arrival at the Cusco airport, you will be greeted by our local Travelous English-speaking representative who will escort you to the Sacred Valley. The transfer from (11,200 ft) to Sacred Valley (nearly 2,000ft lower) is approximately two hours.

Enjoy your afternoon at leisure as you acclimatize to the high altitude in the Valley of the Incas. The Sacred Valley will charm you with its pleasant climate, fertile lands and spectacular views surrounding picturesque communities. Travelous encourages you to relax and relish a traditional Coca or Muna infused tea.

Day 4
Sacred Valley

Bask in the glory of the Sacred Valley through a full day tour of its alluring attractions. Visit the Pisac Ruins, set high above the valley (9,700ft), by patterned fields and rimmed with terraces, the stone work and panoramas from Pisac ruins are quite striking. Continue to Maras Salt Terraces glistening salt mines that have been in use since pre-Columbian times. Visit the archaeological site of Moray. The Andean terraces, built on retaining walls filled with fertile soil and watered via a complex irrigation system, offered more than 250 different types of vegetables and cereals, such as corn, quinoa and kiwicha.

Next is Chinchero, a vibrant community nestled in the mountains. Its main attraction, however, is its Sunday Market, which was originally dedicated to the barter of produce by the people of the valley. Today, it is a hub of pulsating activity of color and movement with its range of produce, handicrafts and textiles made in pre-Columbian style.

Day 5
Inca Trail

Today, begin your hike along the spectacular Inca Trail, marvelling at the vastness of the mountains and skies, as the Incas did hundreds of years ago.This is the classic four-day trek along the Inca trail to Machu Picchu. This magnificent hike is for travelers who are in condition to hike up to 7 hours (with breaks) in a single day. On the last morning of the hike, arrive at Machu Picchu with plenty of time to explore the ruins before returning to Cusco by train.

The Inca Trail starts at Piskacuchu (2700m/8856ft), a community located en route to Machu Picchu (7,800ft). The hike begins by crossing a bridge over the Urubamba River and walking along its left shore; then ascending and finally seeing - from the tallest point of an overlook - the impressive Inca city of Llactapata (2650m/8692ft). Continue trekking along the picturesque valley created by the Kusichaca River, gradually climbing for about five hours before arriving at the community of Wayllabamba (3000m/9840ft), where the group will set up the first camp. 5-6 hours walking time.

Distance: 12 km (7,47 miles).
Maximum altitude: 3,000 m (9,840 ft)

Day 6
Inca Trail

After breakfast, begin the most difficult part of the trek, which consists of an abrupt and steep ascent that stretches for almost 9 km. Ascend the steep-sided Llullucha valley and hike past a rushing stream and through an enchanted native polylepis woodland. The trail traverses an open slope opposite jutting mountain crags as you hike to the first and highest pass, Warmiwanusca (4,200m/13,776ft). Here, take the trail to the plateau of the forested Pacaymayo valley, where the group will set up camp. (3,500 m / 11,480 ft). 6-7 hours walking time.

Day 7
Inca Trail

This is the longest but also the most impressive day because of the archaeological sites and the rich Andean flora and fauna. From Pacaymayo, you will go to the second mountain pass "Abra Runkurakay" (3970m/13022ft). When you arrive at Sayacmarca (3624m/11887ft), find a fascinating semicircular construction and enclosures at different levels. As you wind your way through a natural tunnel, you will finally arrive at Phuyupatamarca.

This is one of the most complete and most well-preserved archaeological complexes along the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu. Phuyupatamarca means "town over the clouds". You will continue your trek down to Winaywayna campsite (2650m/8692ft). This is an impressive Inca complex made up of an agricultural center with numerous terraces, a religious sector and an urban sector. This is also the place where you will set up camp for the night. 8 hours walking time.

Maximum altitude: 3,900 m (12,792 ft)

Day 8
Cusco

Wake up at early dawn in order to leave Winaywayna and hike to the Sun Gate. From Intipunku (Sun Gate), you will be rewarded with a panoramic view of the awe-inspiring Machu Picchu. A bit later, you will begin a complete guided tour of the Incan citadel that will last approximately two hours. You will then have free time to explore and visit Machu Picchu at your own pace. In the afternoon, you will take the bus to Aguas Calientes in order to catch the train to Poroy Station. 2.5 hours walking time.

Distance: 4 km (2,49 miles).
Maximum altitude: 2,700 m (8,829 ft)

Day 9
Cusco

In the early afternoon, enjoy a private city tour of Cusco city and its surrounding ruins. This captivating city tour begins with a visit to Cusco's Main Square, known in Inca times as "Huyacaypata" or "The Warrior"s Square." This was the location of key political and cultural events in Cusco's history. The next stop is the great Cathedral, which was built between 1560 and 1664 with large stones of red granite taken from the Inca Fortress of Sacsayhuaman. Next, tour the gold-plated Korikancha Temple, the most important temple dedicated to sun worship. Afterwards, continue to the ruins above Cusco: Kenko, Pucapucara, Tambomachay and the Sacsayhuaman Fortress, an imposing example of Inca military architecture.

Day 10
Cusco

  • Airfare to/from the Tour start point, including domestic or inter-country connecting flights, unless otherwise stated in itinerary.
  • tips and gratuities
  • items of a personal nature such as incidentals, excess baggage charges
  • airport taxes/entrance fees, port charges, foreign government departure taxes
  • Visas (unless otherwise indicated), Inspection, Customs, Immigration and Naturalization fees Additional fuel surcharges on cruises
  • Travel Insurance including Medical, Lost Baggage and Trip cancellation
  • Optional activities (golf, watersports, etc.)
  • any other activities or items not explicitly advertised as included in the price of a Tour

 

Reservations/Booking and Deposits:  To book a Tour, each Traveler (or leader of a Group of Travelers) must submit:

 

A.     A completed booking form signed electronically by the main Traveler. By submitting the booking form on the payments page, the traveler accepts our full Terms and Conditions.  

B.     A deposit of 30% of the Tour price (minimum $250 per person), is due immediately upon booking.

C.     The full balance of the trip cost is due ninety days (90) before the trip departure date.

D.      If you book your trip with us ninety days (90 days) or less before the departure date, the full cost of the trip is due at that time.

E.       In the instance payment is made by certified check or wire transfer, reservations will only commence once the check is cleared.

F.       Availability of Services and Accommodations cannot be guaranteed until a Tour is booked.  We will exercise our best efforts to book the Services and Accommodations described in the Tour Itinerary, however, in busy seasons and with client bookings made within 90 days of Tour date, we may be forced to offer substitutes.  In this instance we will notify you as soon as possible and try to substitute comparable Services and Accommodations based on availability.

G.      Ticketing & credit card processing for international transport and other select domestic airfare pertaining to a specific country is done by a 3rd party and not included in your total land package price unless otherwise stated.

H.       Cancellations of confirmed bookings 90 days or more prior to departure will receive full refund minus a $250 (per person) administrative fee and any non-refundable paid fees (e.g. non-refundable airfare, permits, cruise or hotel deposits). 60-89 days will be subject to loss of 30% of program price minus a $250 (per person) administrative fee and any non-refundable paid fees (e.g. non-refundable airfare, permits, cruise or hotel deposits). 30-59 days will be subject to loss of 50% of program price. 29 days or less will be subject to loss of 100% of program price.
